Position: Special Education Teacher (High School)
Location: Northern

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a positive and inclusive classroom culture in which all students feel welcomed, valued, and supported. Build strong relationships with students and families that reflect genuine care, respect, and a shared commitment to academic and social-emotional growth.
  • Design and implement individualized and small group instruction aligned with students’ IEPs, grade-level standards, and the school’s college-preparatory curriculum. Ensure that all students, including those with disabilities, have equitable access to rigorous coursework that prepares them for postsecondary success.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to plan and deliver differentiated instruction and co-teaching models that meet the diverse learning needs of students across all content areas.
  • Provide specialized instruction and targeted interventions in literacy, mathematics, executive functioning, and social-emotional skills to support students in achieving their IEP goals and preparing for college and career readiness.
  • Assess and analyze student performance data regularly to inform instruction, monitor IEP progress, and make data-driven adjustments with the IEP team and school leaders.
  • Ensure compliance with all IDEA and NJDOE special education regulations, including accurate and timely IEP development, documentation, progress reporting, and family communication.
  • Foster and promote UC TEAMS values to create a structured, caring, and responsive learning environment that encourages independence, self-advocacy, and personal growth.
  • Collaborate with related service providers, child study team members and other stakeholders to develop and implement supports that promote academic achievement and transition planning.
  • Develop strong partnerships with families through consistent communication, participation in IEP meetings, conferences, and school events to ensure alignment between home and school.
  • Arrive at school each day by 7:30 a.m. and leave no earlier than 3:45 p.m.
Qualifications
  • NJ Teacher of Students with Disabilities certification or eligibility required
  • NJ Subject Area certification (content-specific) preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree required;
    Master’s degree preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Minimum of two years teaching experience preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and families
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Self-reflective and analytical problem solver with a growth mindset
  • Openness to feedback and commitment to continuous improvement
  • Unwavering belief in the potential of all students and persistence in helping them achieve excellence
