Position: Transition Consultant Job – Training & Consultation
Location: Northern

As a full-time Transition Consultant, you'll partner with contracted schools, adult service providers, and Watson Institute programs to provide community-based instruction and transition consultation services.

Job Requirements:
  • Master’s degree in Special Education or closely related field required
  • Five years’ experience transitioning Special Education students to post-school outcomes preferred
  • Knowledge of adult programming and services preferred
  • The essential functions of the job described herein require the ability to exert moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of bending, stooping, squatting, reaching, kneeling, crouching and brisk walking, which may involve lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and material of moderate weight (40 pounds)
  • Valid PA Driver’s license and ability to drive students in a van
  • Current Act 34, 114, and 151 clearances
  • Pre-employment medical examination, including a tuberculosis test, required
Transition Consultant

Job Responsibilities:
  • Provide community-based instruction and transition consultation services to contracted schools and adult service providers
  • Assist Watson program staff and district staff in the development and implementation of student transition plans; attend and contribute to IEP team meetings when asked by direct contact
  • Provide training and consultation in the areas of Community-Based Instruction, Indicator 13 Compliance, Job Readiness, Adult Agencies/Services, OIDD & OVR, and other transition topics
  • Conduct individual or group readiness classes to prepare students for post-high school living, such as interviewing skills, applications, resume writing, work-appropriate social skills, etc.
  • Support student transition activities within the school and in the community as they relate to the students’ IEP post-secondary goals, when requested
  • Facilitate coordination of and/or conduct formal vocational evaluations, career and interest inventories, aptitude and accommodation assessments, and provide written reports of results, when requested
  • Develop partnerships with local businesses and community organizations for the purposes of the Community-Based Vocational Evaluation (CBVE), job shadowing, and potential post-school employment
  • Establish and maintain a system for collecting data and monitoring CBVE student progress
  • Provide professional development to Watson and school district staff regarding the areas of transition programming
  • Serve as a liaison between community transition agencies, adult service providers, and schools
  • Make recommendations for pre-vocational and career education curriculum resources
  • Adhere to each school district’s safety policy procedures and the Watson Institute’s safety procedures, the Department of Labor guidelines, and individual agency/work site regulations
  • Maintain professional competence through professional development
  • Travel daily to various sites and drive students in a van to and from various sites
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor or as assigned by district contacts
