Job Description

Summary:

The George Washington University (GW), strategically located in Washington, DC, is a leading global research university committed to advancing education, scholarship, and public service. Through partnerships with institutions, governments, industry, and nongovernmental organizations around the world, GW advances research, teaching, and experiential learning while preparing students to lead in an interconnected world.
The Provost’s Office seeks an Associate Provost, Global Academic Partnerships to serve as a liaison among university leadership, faculty, international government agencies, higher education institutions, embassies, multilateral organizations, alumni, and industry partners. The Associate Provost will foster international collaboration while expanding opportunities for global education, research, and institutional partnerships.
Reporting to the Deputy Provost, the Associate Provost is responsible for developing and sustaining international partnerships, supporting international enrollment efforts, and representing the university domestically and abroad. The position requires exceptional leadership, relationship management, program development, and operational expertise to advance the university’s international engagement.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Develop, coordinate, and advance international partnerships and engagement activities for the university
  • Identify, negotiate, and formalize academic partnerships with universities, government agencies, international organizations, foundations, and private-sector entities worldwide.
  • Cultivate and strengthen relationships with ministries of education, embassies, multilateral organizations, and other governmental and non-governmental partners.
  • Sustain and expand existing international partnerships through ongoing engagement, collaborative initiatives, and regular assessment.
  • Identify and collaborate with schools on new academic collaborations, particularly cohort programs, executive education, dual-degree programs, and other international initiatives.
  • Attend international conferences, recruitment events, partnership meetings, workshops, and other external engagements to promote these goals.
External Relations and Business Development
  • Expand the university’s global presence by identifying emerging international markets and cultivating institutional partnerships.
  • Research and evaluate opportunities for new academic collaborations, sponsored programs, and international educational initiatives.

Build relationships with alumni, employers, foundations, corporate partners, and international organizations to support university initiatives and student opportunities.
  • Collaborate across academic and administrative units to advance international engagement and support institutional priorities.
  • Oversee program operations, ensuring compliance with university policies and partner agreements.
  • Monitor program performance through assessment and continuous improvement.
Leadership and Collaboration
  • Work collaboratively with schools, colleges, and administrative units across the university to support international engagement.
  • Provide leadership on international education issues and serve as a resource to faculty and staff.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and recommendations for senior leadership regarding international partnerships, program performance, and emerging opportunities.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement in support of the university’s international activities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Initial Portfolio
The Associate Provost will initially continue to oversee established international partnerships for GSEHD, including relationships with governmental and university partners in Azerbaijan, while gradually supporting the continued expansion of the university’s international collaborations and global engagement activities.
