Description Instructional Assistant- 1. Works cooperatively with all staff.
- 2. Work within the framework of the Greenwood-Leflore Consolidated Schools as set forth in the line organizational chart.
- 3. Model good reading, writing, and speaking skills for students.
- 4. Work directly with students reinforcing skills taught by the teacher in basic language, mathematics, reading, and social skills.
- 5. Provide accommodations, modifications, etc. to students with disabilities.
- 6. Monitor written assignments as students work and provide opportunities for immediate reteaching/reinforcing when misunderstandings of an assignment is detected.
- 7. Work with a large group when reading to the group and/or playing vocabulary games.
- 8. Work with individual or small groups to reinforce basic language, reading, mathematics, and social skills.
- 9.Follow daily schedule as outlined by the lead teacher, assistant principal or principal.
- 10.Assist in preparing material (e.g., charts, posters, board work, and correcting work), assist in displaying students’ work, and distribute and collect papers.
- 11.Supervise independent student study.
- 12.Attend and participate in professional development activities.
- 13.Follow directions of the principal, assistant principal and classroom teacher.
- 14.Assist the classroom teacher with resources, files, student unit, and learning centers.
- 15.Accompany small groups of students to and from various locations within the school.
- 16.Assist the lead teacher in the instructional planning process.
- 17.Perform such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as requested by his/her supervisor(s).
- 18. Reports to the assigned area in a timely manner, and recognizes the importance of following a fast-paced school schedule.
- 19. Shall dress appropriately and in a professional manner.
- 20. Must adhere to strong school Code of Ethics and moral treatment of students.
- 21. Employees are expected to work an 8-hour work day, usually 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. a. unless otherwise noted or as adjusted by their principal or supervisor.
- 22. Shall participate in all state testing and will adhere to all guidelines and regulations as mandated by the State and District.
- 23. Punctuality is expected and is an essential function of this job.
- 24. Daily attendance is an essential function of this job.
- 25. Personnel must clock in and out at the appropriate scheduled time assigned if there is a time clock present.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervises classroom students.
- Ensures the safety of students under supervision in the classroom or playground.
- Receives supervision from the building principal; receives day-to-day guidance and supervision from classroom teachers.
EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or GED;
Associate Degree or higher preferred.
A minimum of 48 college hours from an Institute of Higher Learning or passing scores on all three (3) sections of the ACT WORKKEYS
