Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory (SHC) is a Lasallian Vincentian Catholic, co-educational college preparatory secondary school located in the heart of San Francisco, California. Position

Summary

This is a 20% FTE (or 1/5th) position, teaching a ninth-grade dance class introducing students to the fundamentals of contemporary dance and ballet techniques, to various genres of dance and their cultural contexts, and to how the body moves in space. This class meets twice a week, from 8:00 to 9:15am. This role may be combined with other duties at the school to become a benefit-eligible at 60% FTE (3/5ths) or more.

Design and implement lessons to facilitate physical expression, embodied creativity, and essential skills and understandings to develop as a dancer;

Provide regular and varied formative and summative assessments to demonstrate achievement and to facilitate students’ ability to understand their progress toward learning targets;

Maintain an interactive and timely learning environment, in both physical and virtual learning spaces;

Communicate consistently with students, parents, and school personnel;

Keep current and complete electronic grading and attendance records;

Support the school’s Advisory program and co-curricular activities;

Engage in professional learning as an essential part of being a reflective practitioner and as part of the school’s ongoing commitment to excellence;

Actively participate in SHC’s strategic initiatives to strengthen meaningful diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging practices, especially strategies to support equitable learning, culturally responsive teaching, social emotional learning, and universal design for learning (as stipulated by the DEIB strategic plan adopted by SHC Board of Regents in 2021);

Engage in the mission of SHC and the charisms of the Daughters of Charity and De La Salle Christian Brothers and Department of Catholic Schools through their formational programs.

Required Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in Dance, Fine Arts, or related field; or comparable professional training and experience.
  • Experience working with students (preferably middle school and/or high school aged students).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively to promote student learning.
  • Ability to teach beginning and intermediate dance class levels.
Desired Qualifications
  • Teaching Credential;
  • Experience teaching in a Catholic high school setting;
