Job Description

Summary:

The Teaching Assistant (TA) will support instruction in an introductory American Sign Language (ASL) course by assisting with classroom activities, facilitating small-group practice, and providing peer support to students as they develop their receptive and expressive signing skills.

The TA may help prepare instructional materials, model ASL use during class activities, maintain a positive and inclusive learning environment, and assist the instructor with routine administrative tasks such as attendance, technology setup, or organizing course resources.

Essential Functions
  • Assisting with classroom activities.
  • Facilitating small-group practice.
  • Providing peer support to students as they develop their receptive and expressive signing skills.
  • Help prepare instructional materials.
  • Model ASL use during class activities.
  • Maintain a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Assist the instructor with routine administrative tasks such as attendance, technology setup, or organizing course resources.
  • Other duties assigned.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
  • Part-time.
  • 4 hours per week.
  • Salary Range: $18.40 per hour.
Required

Education and Experience
  • The successful candidate should have successfully completed the introductory ASL course (or equivalent coursework) with a strong record of academic achievement, or be able to demonstrate proficiency in ASL.
  • The TA should possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, reliability, professionalism, and the ability to work collaboratively with both students and the instructor.
  • A commitment to supporting diverse learners, maintaining confidentiality, and serving as a positive role model in the classroom is essential.
