Position Summary

We seek a candidate whose teaching and research are centered on Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI). Primary duties involve teaching undergraduate and graduate MIS courses, conducting high-impact research that appears in top peer-reviewed journals on the Culverhouse journal list, and contributing to service as assigned by the department, college, and university.

Detailed Position Information

The Department of Information Systems, Statistics, and Management Science at the Culverhouse College of Business, University of Alabama, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Management Information Systems with a start date of August 16, 2027. Successful candidates will be expected to conduct and lead independent, high-impact research in MIS, teach undergraduate and graduate courses, and contribute to departmental and university service at a level appropriate for the rank of Assistant Professor.

Potential teaching assignments range from large lectures of an introductory MIS course to graduate, courses, including PhD.

Candidates should provide evidence of high-impact research, with a preference for those specializing in Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) and its applications. We welcome research in areas including, but not limited to:

  • GAI governance, risk management, and responsible use
  • GAI in software development and ecosystems
  • Organizational and societal implications of GAI
  • Agentic systems and autonomous architectures
  • Organizational transformation enabled by GAI
  • Human-GAI collaboration and augmentation
  • GAI’s impact on education and the future of work
  • GAI-specific research methodologies in MIS

A track-record of external funding is a plus. Candidates must demonstrate excellence in undergraduate and/or graduate teaching. Preference will be given to those with experience in teaching courses related to Generative Artificial Intelligence.

Minimum Qualifications
  • 1. A doctoral degree in MIS or a closely related field by the time the appointment begins;
  • 2. Candidates must provide tangible evidence of a strong commitment to lead independent research as lead authors and publish in MIS journals recognized on the Culverhouse Journal List, particularly in the 'Aspirational' and 'Excellent' categories: (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below)..
  • 3. Evidence of interest in and enthusiasm for teaching excellence;
  • 4. Willingness to provide service for the operation and functioning of the department, school, and university.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1. Flexibility and latitude in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses.
  • 2. Prior industry/professional experience.
  • 3. Experience in teaching project-based courses with industry collaboration.
