Description
The Department of Drama and Dance at Hofstra University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Dance to begin work on January 25, 2027. The successful candidate will join our nationally recognized Dance Program and will contribute to our mission of training the next generation of dynamic and diverse dance artists, educators and multi-disciplinary scholars.
Interested applicants for this position should have significant experience in teaching dance courses in higher education, a sustained commitment to inclusive pedagogy, a clearly articulated creative agenda, with a record of professional and scholarly achievement, and the capacity for visionary artistic and programmatic leadership.
Responsibilities include teaching a range of courses for undergraduates, which could include Contemporary techniques, Modern, Ballet, Jazz, African dance techniques and the ability to teach in other areas such as Choreography, Somatics, Contemporary Partnering, Dance and Film, or other interdisciplinary and emerging artistic practices.
The successful candidate will play an active role in the artistic and academic leadership of the Dance Program. In addition, they will contribute to the program in ways such as mentoring students, producing dance concerts, curating repertory, choreographing for performances, and leading recruitment efforts both on and off campus.
We seek highly engaged dance professionals with a sustained artistic career in their field, who will enrich our collaborative, diverse, and interdisciplinary community and who will be committed to continuing their creative practice to bring innovative industry knowledge into the classroom.
