Job Summary:

Hawai`i Pacific University, Graduate College of Health Sciences is seeking candidates for a fulltime Director of Clinical Education (DCE), in a 12‑month non‑tenured faculty appointment at the level of Assistant Professor for its developing hybrid Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program in Las Vegas, Nevada.
This accelerated two‑year DPT program is a blend of online and on‑campus activities which allows the faculty member to live remote to the HPU Las Vegas campus. However, DPT faculty members must be able to travel and stay in Las Vegas for designated time periods each academic term.

The Director of Clinical Education holds primary responsibility for the development, coordination, and execution of all clinical placements for students enrolled in the HPU Doctor of Physical Therapy program at the Las Vegas campus. This role is essential to the program’s operation and accreditation compliance.

Successful candidates should possess excellent communication skills and strong computer skills to meet the needs of our online didactic instructional format. We desire a team‑oriented colleague who is willing and able to collaborate and share instructional methods and student‑learning activities. We are eager to identify candidates who show a genuine appreciation of contemporary evidence‑based teaching, integration of technology within the classroom, and building a student‑centered community within the online classroom.

The Director of Clinical Education will be expected to develop, enhance, and refine the clinical education component of the HPU DPT Las Vegas location. This faculty member should have knowledge of quality learning experience for students during clinical education and the ability to educate students, clinical and academic faulty about the clinical education student journey. This administrative role with the program has a critical responsibility to select clinical learning environments that demonstrate characteristics of sound patient/client management, ethical and professional behavior, and currency with physical therapy practice.

The DCE will collaborate with the clinical education team at the HPU DPT Honolulu location to maximize resources for the admissions process. The DCE has the primary oversite and provides documented records and assessment of the clinical education component at the DPT Las Vegas location (including the clinical education sites and clinical educators).

While the DCE collaborates with the clinical education team at the HPU DPT Honolulu location to maximize shared resources and best practices, the DCE retains full responsibility for oversight, placement, assessment, and documentation of clinical education for the Las Vegas campus.

This is a full‑time, 12‑month (36‑credit) exempt faculty position with up to 18 credits of teaching over the calendar year with instructional terms in spring, summer, and fall. The successful candidate will understand higher education and have knowledge of legislative, regulator, legal and practice issues affecting didactic and clinical education, students, and the profession of physical therapy. In addition to administrative, instructional, and scholarly activity, they will participate in commencement, convocations and other university‑wide events, and department and collegiate meetings in the week before the start of academic terms.

Faculty presence and engagement is expected during academic terms that faculty have teaching responsibilities. Salary and rank commensurate with qualifications.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Earned Doctor of Physical Therapy degree (or tDPT) from an accredited university.
  • Minimum of 2 years in clinical education (e.g. DCE, SCCE, CI).
  • Understanding of higher education and contemporary clinical practice appropriate for leadership in physical therapy clinical education.
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure in Nevada or the state of residence.
  • Active in professional activities at local, state, and/or national levels.

  • Terminal degree (PhD, EdD, DSc) in physical therapy or related field.
