Description
POSITION SUMMARY

The Part-Time Library Associate – Patron Experience provides excellent customer servicebyassistinglibrary patrons with circulation services, account help, finding library resources, answering general questions, and providing basic technology assistance. Promptly processes library materials to ensure patron access and accuracy of records.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to: Library Supervisor - Patron Experience

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Customer Service (70%)
  • Daily, deliver circulation services, including issuing new cards and using the integrated library system (Sierra) to check materials in and out.
  • Daily, provide library information, technology assistance,referrals,and reader’sadvisory guidance to patrons in person, over the phone, and via email.
  • Daily, use high-level customer service and reference interview skills todetermineand respond to patron needs in person, over the phone, and via email.
  • Daily, promote an inclusive and welcoming environment for staff and patrons, and uphold City of Englewood and Library values.
Operational Support (20%)
  • Daily, prepare items accurately to fulfill patron holds, for return to partner libraries, and process materials delivered through courier service.
  • Daily, complete opening and closing procedures at the service desk.
  • Daily, assist with local shelving of returned materials.
  • As scheduled, review updates or changes to Library policies and procedures and adhere to policies and procedures and/or communicate policies and procedures topatronsas necessary.
  • As scheduled, create inviting displays of library materials and develop thematic lists of books and other resources in collaboration with other library staff
  • As scheduled, ensure accuracy of database by updating location codes and item status as needed.
  • As scheduled, assist with evaluating andmaintainingthe existing collection through recommendations andweedingmaterialsin accordance with established guidelines.
Community Engagement and Program Development (5%)
  • As scheduled, share information on library services and programs as well as current activities of the department and City with patrons and staff.
  • As scheduled, assist with the implementation and hosting of programming in the library.
  • As scheduled, may participate in library outreach to promote library card sign-ups and other library services.
Other Duties and Responsibilities (5%)
  • As scheduled, may be tasked with support of additional projects managed by the Librarian or Library Supervisor.
  • As scheduled, may work directly with volunteers, providing information on assigned tasks or assisting with training volunteers on shelving responsibilities.
  • As scheduled, may be tasked with support of additional projects managed by the Librarian or Library Supervisor.
PREPARATION AND TRAINING
Education
  • Bachelor’s degreein any field required.

An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.

Work Experience

2yearsof customer service experience required. Public library and/or bookstore experience preferred.

Experience working with diverse and vulnerable populations is preferred.

Preferred
  • Bilingual language skills in English and Spanish
PHYSICAL EXERTION

Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
