The Substitute Teacher provides classroom instruction and student supervision in the absence of the regularly assigned teacher. The position follows the teacher's lesson plans, maintains established classroom routines, supports a safe and productive learning environment, and communicates relevant information to school personnel at the end of the assignment.

- Current Michigan Teaching Certificate (Substitute Permit not required)
- Non-Certified Permitted Teacher Positions/Rates of Pay
- Transcripts with a total of 60+ credit hours and a minimum 2.0 GPA from accredited colleges/universities
- Current Michigan Teaching Certificate (Substitute Permit not required)
- Out of State Teaching Certificate accompanied by an undergraduate transcript from a two or four-year accredited college/university showing 60
* credit hours and a minimum 2.0 GPA
* Some school districts may require more than 60 credit hours.
K-12 BACKGROUND REQUIREMENTS (FINGERPRINTING) -DOES NOT PERTAIN TO COLLEGIATE POSITIONS:
The State of Michigan, as well as Edustaff, requires all individuals regularly providing instructional, food, custodial, transportation, counseling, or administrative services in a public or private school, or instructional or auxiliary services to special education students to be electronically printed under the SE – MI SCHOOL EMPLOYMENT (MCL 380.1230a) reason code.
For K-12 positions, if previously fingerprinted for MI School Employment, your fingerprint results must meet the following requirements in order to be valid:
- Fingerprints were taken after January 1, 2006.
- You have been regularly and continuously employed by a K-12 educational institution or its 3rd party staffing company since being printed.
If your fingerprints do not meet these requirements, you must use the Edustaff live scan request form to be fingerprinted. For a list of approved live scan vendors, please visit the Michigan State Police Live Scan vendor list at the following link:

- Report to the school office at the required time, sign in, obtain assignment materials and instructions, and return required materials before leaving.
- Review and follow lesson plans, schedules, classroom procedures, and school expectations provided by the classroom teacher or school administration.
- Provide instruction, learning activities, and student support appropriate to the assigned grade level, subject area, and classroom setting.
- Maintain a safe, respectful, orderly, and inclusive learning environment using established classroom-management practices.
- Actively supervise students during classroom instruction and, as assigned, during arrival, dismissal, passing periods, lunch recess, or other school activities by monitoring student behavior and the surrounding environment, recognizing verbal, visual, behavioral, and environmental cues, and responding promptly to safety concerns or requests for assistance.
- Monitor student participation and work, provide reasonable assistance, and adapt within the scope of the provided lesson plan and school direction.
- Follow student health, safety, emergency, confidentiality, behavior-support, and accommodation procedures communicated by the school.
- Promptly report significant behavioral, safety, medical, or other concerns to the principal, designee, or appropriate school employee. Communication with parents or guardians should occur only when directed by authorized school personnel.
- Maintain accurate notes regarding completed work, attendance information when assigned, classroom events, and any matters requiring follow-up by the regular teacher or administration.
- Protect confidential student and school information and comply with applicable Edustaff, district, and school policies and procedures.
- Perform other related duties consistent with the assignment and as directed by the building principal or designee.
