Position Summary:

SLPS is seeking a Climate and Culture Specialist to provide intensive, strategic hands-on support to the District's comprehensive schools and their Student Support Teams. Working in coordination with the Director of Climate and Culture and comprehensive school leaders, the Specialist will strengthen systems and practices that promote positive behavior, student belonging, safe and nurturing learning environments, and strong staff support. Through coaching, professional development, PBIS implementation, restorative practices, data analysis, Tiered Fidelity Inventory (TFI) completion, and action planning, the Specialist will help comprehensive schools build consistent and sustainable climate and culture systems so students receive the supports they need to thrive and staff feel prepared, supported, and equipped to meet student needs.

Essential Functions:
  • Provide intensive, ongoing climate and culture support to SLPS comprehensive schools and serve as a primary support partner to their principals, Student Support Teams, and school staff
  • Meet regularly with comprehensive school Student Support Teams to identify student and school needs, review data, problem-solve barriers, coordinate supports, monitor implementation, and determine next steps
  • Support comprehensive schools in developing and strengthening Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS), multi-tiered behavioral supports, restorative practices, character education, student belonging, relationship-building, student voice and leadership, and other positive climate and culture strategies
  • Facilitate the Tiered Fidelity Inventory (TFI) with comprehensive school teams to assess PBIS implementation, identify strengths and areas for growth, establish priorities, and monitor progress over time
  • Partner with each comprehensive school to develop, implement, monitor, and revise a climate and culture action plan informed by TFI results, behavioral data, school climate data, stakeholder feedback, and identified student and staff needs
  • Provide professional development, coaching, modeling, consultation, and technical assistance to comprehensive school leaders, Student Support Teams, teachers, and support staff based on identified needs
  • Support comprehensive schools in establishing consistent school wide expectations, routines, procedures, recognition systems, interventions, restorative responses, and practices that promote safe, inclusive, welcoming, and supportive learning environments
  • Assist Student Support Teams in reviewing behavioral and climate data to identify trends, determine appropriate Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 supports, monitor student response to interventions, and adjust supports as needed
  • Support school teams in strengthening systems that reduce exclusionary responses to behavior and increase proactive, restorative, instructional, and relationship-centered approaches
  • Build the capacity of comprehensive school staff through resources, tools, coaching, follow-up, and collaborative problem-solving so staff feel supported, prepared, and confident in responding to student needs
  • Collaborate with school leaders and Student Support Teams to identify students requiring additional behavioral, social-emotional, relational, or restorative support and help align school-based interventions and resources to those needs
  • Monitor implementation and progress of climate and culture initiatives within comprehensive schools and communicate strengths, needs, progress, and recommendations to the Director of Climate and Culture
