Job Summary

The Parish School of Religion (PSR) Teacher is responsible for providing engaging, age-appropriate instruction in religious studies while supporting the spiritual, moral, and personal development of students. The teacher creates a welcoming, respectful, and inclusive learning environment where students are encouraged to explore and deepen their understanding of the Catholic faith, learn about Church traditions and teachings, and develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

The PSR Teacher serves as a positive role model of faith and supports the mission and values of the parish by fostering a classroom environment rooted in respect, compassion, integrity, and understanding.

Job Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate religion lessons in alignment with the PSR curriculum and Catholic teachings.
  • Create a positive and respectful classroom environment that encourages students to ask questions, share ideas, reflect on their faith, and participate in thoughtful discussion.
  • Encourage critical thinking, respectful dialogue, prayer, and personal reflection as students explore the Catholic faith.
  • Incorporate age-appropriate activities, instructional resources, technology, and real-world examples to enhance student learning and engagement.
  • Support students' spiritual, moral, and personal development by modeling Christian values and encouraging them to live out their faith in their daily lives.
  • Teach and reinforce knowledge of Catholic traditions, Scripture, prayer, sacraments, and the teachings of the Catholic Church as appropriate to the assigned grade level.
  • Participate in PSR liturgies, prayer services, sacramental preparation, and other parish or faith-based activities as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate student attendance, progress records, and other required documentation.
  • Communicate professionally and respectfully with students, parents/guardians, parish staff, and fellow PSR teachers.
  • Maintain a professional, welcoming, and well-organized classroom that respects the dignity and individuality of every student and family.
  • Follow all PSR policies, procedures, safety requirements, and parish guidelines.
  • Support the mission, values, programs, and community activities of the PSR and parish.
  • Collaborate with PSR leadership and other teachers to promote a consistent, supportive, and faith-filled learning experience.
Job Requirements
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to the Catholic faith and the mission of the Parish School of Religion.
  • Ability to create an engaging, welcoming, and age-appropriate learning environment.
  • Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with children and youth while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Dependable, patient, compassionate, and enthusiastic approach to teaching and ministry.
  • Willingness to participate in parish and PSR activities beyond regular classroom instruction as appropriate.
  • Previous teaching, catechetical, youth ministry, or classroom experience is preferred.
