Job Description:

The Assistant Director for Leadership Education is responsible for the development, implementation, and assessment of leadership programs within the Ware Institute for Civic Engagement. Reporting to the Executive Director, this position supports the Institute's mission by delivering co-curricular leadership education that is integrated with civic engagement and community-based experiences. The role ensures leadership programs are accessible, structured, and aligned with institutional priorities for student development, engagement, and community impact.

Essential Functions:

Leadership Program Development and Delivery:

• Develop, implement, and sustain leadership education programs, including workshops, trainings, and cohort-based experiences.
• Facilitate leadership development grounded in ethical, inclusive, and community-engaged practices.
• Coordinate structured leadership pathways, including peer leadership, mentoring, and applied experiences.
• Support integration of leadership programs within the broader Ware Institute framework.

Student Engagement and Advising:

• Advise and support students participating in leadership programs.
• Promote participation in leadership opportunities across diverse student populations.
• Support student involvement in volunteer programs and community partnerships.

Collaboration and Campus Partnerships:

• Collaborate with Student Affairs and Academic Affairs partners to align leadership education with civic engagement initiatives.
• Support integration of leadership development across co-curricular and, where appropriate, curricular experiences.

Assessment and Program Operations:

• Assess program effectiveness using established learning outcomes and participation data.
• Assist with program logistics, budgeting, and reporting.
• Maintain records and contribute to divisional and institutional assessment efforts.
• All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree.
• At least 3 years of experience developing and facilitating programs focused on leadership development.
• Familiarity with civic engagement or community-based learning.
• Ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
• Excellent oral, written, interpersonal communication skills.
• Proficiency in Google Suite Products (Docs, Gmail, Sheets, Slides, Drive)
• Evidence of a commitment to community & belonging.
• Successful interview.
• Successful completion of background checks.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's degree or equivalent combination of experience and training in higher education, student development, leadership studies, or a related field.
• Relevant experience in leadership development or student affairs in a higher education setting.
• Experience advising student organizations or leadership programs.
