Position Purpose

Financial Coaches support Per Scholas Learners and Alumni on their journey toward financial stability and long-term wealth building. This role combines one-on-one financial counseling, group education, and resource navigation to help Learners overcome barriers during training, successfully transition into employment, and achieve their personal financial goals.

Key Responsibilities Direct Coaching & Counseling
  • Provide one-on-one Financial Coaching to Learners and Alumni, focusing on financial goal-setting, behavior change, and long-term financial wellness.
  • Help Learners effectively manage credit, debt, personal banking, and daily money management.
  • Support learners in developing personalized financial action plans, including budgets, savings goals, credit repair strategies, and debt repayment plans.
  • Content Development: Develop, facilitate, and implement engaging Financial Coaching content and workshops on core financial topics.
  • Resource Management: Create and maintain dynamic national and local tools, including articles, tip sheets, and instructional worksheets.
Resource Navigation & Emergency Support
  • Community Partnerships: Build and maintain strong relationships with community organizations and government agencies to provide credible referrals for complex financial matters (e.g., bankruptcy, small business startups, foreclosure prevention).
  • Direct Support Fund Management: Inform, screen, track, and monitor Learner access to available direct support funds.
Data Management & Reporting
  • Document all coaching sessions, Learner/Alumni goals, and case metrics accurately in Salesforce.
  • Track and report both quantitative and qualitative outcomes related to financial capability (e.g., budget adoption, savings growth, credit score improvement).
  • Support overall program evaluation efforts by collecting and sharing success stories and Learner/Alumni feedback.
  • Team

    Collaboration:

    Participate in regular conferencing with the Financial Coaching team, Learner Support Team, and broader Per Scholas staff to ensure integrated support and targeted client interventions.
  • Contribute to innovation projects and alumni engagement initiatives that promote continued financial growth and enhance wellness programming.
  • Professional Development: Maintain relevant Financial Coaching accreditations and stay updated on the latest developments, local policies, and trends in the financial education field.
Position Requirements Education & Experience
  • Experience: 2–4 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Certifications: Active Financial Coaching certification or license required (e.g., AFC® or equivalent).
  • Technical Proficiency: Comfortable utilizing Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Suite, Salesforce, Slack, Zoom, and Canva.
  • Communication: Strong public speaking, presentation, and written communication skills; exceptional attention to detail and time management.
  • Mission Alignment: Passion for personal finance, financial education, economic justice, and equity. Dedicated to working with diverse populations from a strength-based perspective.
