Pelham Art Center is expanding its teaching artist roster and seeks creative and experienced artists working across all visual art media for its youth and adult classes, workshops, and outreach programs, with a particular focus on Pre-K through 6th grade. We are looking to connect with artists for current and future opportunities throughout the year, including semester-based classes, summer camps, after school programs, and project-based residencies.

Do you have a unique artistic practice that could inspire an engaging class or workshop? We are always open to fresh ideas and welcome proposals from artists working in innovative disciplines.

We welcome artists working in a wide range of disciplines, including but not limited to painting, drawing, mixed media, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, crafts, digital art, and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math). Ideal candidates will have strong professional experience in their discipline, prior teaching experience with children, teens, and/or adults, and a passion for creative youth development. Strong classroom management skills are essential.

Responsibilities
  • Teach one or more classes per week throughout a program session (spring, summer, fall, or winter), including semester-based classes, summer camps, after school residencies, or project-based engagements
  • Represent Pelham Art Center in interactions with program partners and the broader community
  • Serve as a mentor and model respectful, inclusive communication with students and staff
  • Effectively manage the classroom and maintain a positive learning environment
  • Design and implement creative, age-appropriate, project-based curricula
  • Collaborate with staff and maintain regular communication with supervisors
Qualifications
  • BA/BFA in Art, Education, or a related field required;
    Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum of three years of teaching experience in school or community-based settings
  • NY State teaching certification (especially in art) is a plus
  • Familiarity with state or national learning standards in the arts and/or media arts
  • Active artistic practice
  • Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply
