About Us
West Florida Area Health Education Center (AHEC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving community health through education, outreach, and support.
We are seeking a Part-Time Health Educator to support our Tobacco Free Florida AHEC Cessation Program and AHEC Scholars Program
. This position is a great fit for someone who is organized, outgoing, comfortable working with students and community partners, and enjoys balancing outreach with program coordination.
Hours and responsibilities may vary throughout the year based on program needs.
Tobacco Program Responsibilities- Complete Tobacco Treatment Specialist (TTS) training provided after hire.
- Facilitate tobacco cessation groups and assist with participant referrals and follow-up.
- Conduct community outreach and build partnerships to promote cessation services.
- Provide tobacco-related presentations and trainings to community members and health professionals.
- Maintain accurate participant, training, and program data in TFFACT.
- Distribute approved Tobacco Free Florida educational materials.
- Attend team meetings and travel to groups, presentations, and community events throughout our service area.
- Recruit health professions students and promote the AHEC Scholars Program to colleges, universities, and community partners.
- Communicate with students regarding program requirements, deadlines, meetings, and opportunities.
- Manage Google Classroom and maintain student records and program data.
- Monitor student participation and follow up to support completion of program requirements.
- Assist with student meetings, orientations, presentations, recruitment events, and other program activities.
- Support program reporting and administrative needs.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Experience in public health, education, community outreach, or program coordination preferred.
- Strong communication, presentation, and public speaking skills.
- Organized, dependable, self-motivated, and comfortable managing multiple priorities.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, databases, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams.
- Comfortable working with college students, health professionals, and community organizations.
- Must be tobacco-free for at least six months prior to employment and remain tobacco-free during employment.
- Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and ability to travel within our four-county service area.
- Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
- Occasional evening or weekend activities may be required.
- Must have an interest in workforce development programs and outcomes.
Ability to perform standard office duties, use presentation equipment, travel to program activities, and lift/carry materials up to 20 pounds.
