Special Education Teacher: Functional Academics Grade 5-8

Your Role

Here’s what you will be doing:

• Plan and implement goals of students' Individual Education Programs (IEPs).
• Instruct individuals and groups in special education skill areas.
• Plan curriculum, lessons, and special education programs and teaching methods.
• Evaluate and monitor student progress.
• Maintain the physical environment of the classroom.
• Prepare report cards, educational records, classroom observation records, and other documentation.
• Maintain communication with parents and caregivers of students.
• Develop and implement specific objectives to meet individual student needs in compliance with state and federal laws.
• Supervise students and special education assistants for instructional purposes.
• Maintain regular attendance.

The company is looking for candidates with the following qualifications and skills:

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
• Valid teaching certificate with appropriate special education endorsement.
• Ability to interact effectively with the public, staff, students, parents, and community.
• Ability to apply current research and theory to instructional programs.
• Ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and student needs.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
• Ability to interpret instructions in various forms and develop long-term and short-term goals.
• Physical ability to perform job duties, including standing, walking, talking, hearing, using hands, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and occasionally lifting up to 40 pounds or pushing/pulling up to 100 pounds.

• Salary commensurate with education and experience.
• Salary ranges:
  Career Path I: $47,000 - $66,500;
  Career Path II: $48,500 - $90,500.
