Admission Overnight Host

As a student employee in the Office of Admission, you will engage with prospective students and their families. You will host prospective students in your residence hall room, offering them an in-person opportunity to experience Whitman for themselves and see if this is somewhere they feel a sense of belonging. You would be an integral part of someone’s college search and have the opportunity to be a warm and welcoming presence to prospective students.

• Visit Overnight Host: Host visiting high school seniors in your residence hall room. Attend meals with visitors, guide them around campus and downtown Walla Walla. Hours are dependent on how many prospective students register to stay overnight over the course of the academic year.
• Visit Scholarship Program Host (VSP):Support this program by hosting a two-night stay, October 17-19, April 10-12 and April 24-26. The VSP is an integral part of the visit program and it is made possible because of willing hosts like you. Past participants of the Visit Scholarship Program or Summer Fly-in are encouraged to apply. We are looking for ~40 hosts to make this program possible.

Individuals must be able to explain and demonstrate that they possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities to safely perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation:

• Enjoy sharing stories about personal experiences at Whitman College
• Ability to discuss various aspects of the Whitman experience in detail
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Highly organized with attention to detail
• Quick learning and accurate work execution
• Adaptability to work in diverse settings and with different people
• Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality
• Active involvement in campus activities and organizations
• Carry large amounts of bedding to and from Penrose House
• Ability to walk long distances around campus
• Provide a clean and comfortable sleeping space in their residence

• Must be an enrolled Whitman student taking a minimum of 6 credits
• Demonstrated involvement in campus activities
• Ability to work flexible hours around academic schedule
• Strong interest in representing Whitman College and assisting prospective students
