The Department of Human Sciences at Sam Houston State University (SHSU) invites applications from qualified candidates for a 9-month appointment as an Assistant Professor of Practice in Interior Design beginning Spring 2027.
The primary responsibilities of this position include teaching undergraduate courses in the Interior Design BA/BS program. Courses will include teaching AutoCAD, Revit, Enscape, and Sketch Up software, foundation courses in applied design theory, and other studio and lecture courses as needed for the program. The appointment includes a 4/4 teaching load in the fall and spring semesters.
The ideal candidate would possess a minimum of a Master's degree in interior design or a related field. Substantial and notable professional interior design practice experience, professional credentials, and state/national licensure as a design professional may be considered in lieu of a Master's degree.
Experience Requirements RequiredA minimum of five years of full-time experience in professional practice work or a combination of professional practice and university-level teaching experience is required. The demonstrated experience should be in interior design, architecture or a related discipline.
Other Requirements for the Position PreferredExperience in workplace and/or healthcare design is preferred. Membership in at least one of the following professional organizations: IDEC, IIDA, ASID, or AIA is preferred.
Additional credentials/certifications in any one or more of the following: NCIDQ, LEED-AP, AAHID, WELL-AP, or EDAC is preferred.
