Dean of Education

We’re looking for a Dean of Education to design and run a new kind of educational model at the Horowitz Andreessen Academy that’s completely distinct from any other major college - and that’s driven by students.

Our goal at the Academy is to help students cultivate four key attributes:

• High Agency
• AI-Native Building
• People Skills
• Ambition

Your job is to figure out how to get students to develop these traits  through traditional lectures, tests, grades, or homework - but through allowing students to create their own challenges and projects, and setting an extraordinarily high bar.

This role is part educational philosopher, part culture-builder, part coach. There isn’t a playbook for this type of educational model yet, so you’ll build it from the ground up.

In this role, you will:

• Design the structures that let students direct their own learning - e.g. standups, peer review, mentorship touchpoints
• Figure out how to set a high bar for student work and output, through peer norms and osmosis - instead of through enforcement
• Coach and mentor students directly, pushing them to think bigger and take on harder challenges while also knowing when to step back
• Hire, train, or manage instructors and mentors across disciplines
• Define how the school will assess student growth - especially on traits that, by design, can't be tested or graded
