Minimum QualificationsOne year of admissions or academic advisement experience is required.
Two years of full-time responsible secretarial and clerical experience is required.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited educational institution is required.
Preferred QualificationsExperience in one of the following areas, preferred:
- Clerical/data processing (working knowledge of excel/excel formulas, word, etc.)
- North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS)
- Collegiate level student information systems such as Colleague or Banner
- Evaluating/awarding college credits
The Advisor, NC Boost will play a transformational role by empowering students to design their academic and career goals and take ownership of their academic journey. The Advisor, NC Boost will provide holistic and intrusive student support through academic advising, navigating academic programs and process requirements, career exploration activities, financial readiness, and student development. The advisor will perform various tasks related to advising new, enrolled, and prospective students, including career planning, program and course selection, and retention services.
Examplesof Duties
Essential Functions:
- Assists with the planning, implementation, and supportive resources that impact the engagement, retention, and degree completion of assigned students.
- Assists students in course selection, monitor their academic progress, and offer mentorship on college policies, procedures, and personal development opportunities.
- Provides academic advising assistance to a diverse student population and assists continuing students with understanding their degree plan/audit in preparation for advising.
- Reviews student progress and tracks student use of academic support services.
- Conducts regular outreach to faculty and other college staff as needed to support student success.
- Maintains accurate tracking data and notes for each assigned student, recommending appropriate referrals and opportunity programs.
- Supports annual recruitment of new students into the program.
- Assists students with clarifying values and goals; advises students regarding educational options, requirements, policies and procedures.
- Offers academic support to guide students through the course selection process.
- Provides students with effective and timely referral to other college and external support services.
- Monitors and evaluates students’ educational progress by conducting academic progress audits.
- Organizes periodic special events and programs for students, faculty and staff.
- May conduct or support delivery of student seminars on issues of importance to students;
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Marginal Functions:
- Participate in professional associations and upgrade professional knowledge and skills as possible; membership in NACADA, CACRAO and N3
CSDPA is encouraged/ - Assist in the evaluation of advising processes on an annual basis.
- Support the mission, vision and goals of the college.
- Represent the Student Services department at campus committee meetings.
- Assists in all areas of Student Services when needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
