The Department of Advanced Studies, Leadership and Policy in the School of Education and Urban Studies at Morgan State University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor to support the M.A. in Higher Education and Student Affairs as well as the Ph.D. program in Education with a concentration in Higher Education, beginning in August 2027.

We welcome applications from scholars studying all substantive areas of higher education and representing diverse research specializations and methodological approaches. Regardless of their research agenda or methodological expertise, the successful candidate will teach and develop graduate courses, advise and mentor graduate students, chair and serve on doctoral dissertation committees, maintain an active program of research and scholarship, seek external funding, and participate in service activities at the program, department, school, university, and professional levels.

Rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Primary responsibilities include:

• Teach master’s- and doctoral-level courses in Higher Education and Student Affairs and related graduate education programs;
• Teach in one or more areas of departmental need, including higher education administration and organizational leadership, policy and politics, finance, equity and social justice, history of higher education, student affairs and student development theory, and research methods;
• Advise Ph.D. students throughout their programs of study, including coursework, program milestones, dissertation development, and degree completion;
• Chair doctoral dissertation committees and serve as a member of dissertation committees;
• Advise and mentor master’s students;
• Mentor graduate students in research and scholarly development;
• Maintain an active research and publication agenda;
• Seek external grants and other sponsored funding;
• Participate in professional and scholarly associations; and
• Participate in program, department, school, and university meetings and service activities.

• Competency in quantitative and qualitative research design and data analysis.
• Ideal candidates should also have a track record of, or demonstrated potential for scholarly publications and successful grant writing.
• Possess a strong commitment to social justice, experience working with an ethnically and culturally diverse student population.

• An earned Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Higher Education, Student Affairs Administration/Student Development, or a closely related field;
• A minimum of three years of professional experience in higher education, student affairs, or a related postsecondary setting;
• Evidence of preparation to teach graduate-level courses;
• Knowledge of research methods sufficient to mentor doctoral students in the development and completion of dissertation research;
• Evidence of an active scholarly research and publication agenda;
• Evidence of potential to secure external grants or sponsored funding; and
• Ability to contribute to the mission of the Department of Advanced Studies, Leadership and Policy, the School of Education and Urban Studies, and Morgan State University.

Candidates applying at the Associate Professor rank must demonstrate a record of teaching, scholarship, graduate student advising and mentorship, dissertation supervision, service, and research activity appropriate to appointment at that rank.

Preference will be given to candidates with one or more of the following:

• Graduate-level teaching experience in Higher Education, Student Affairs, or a related field;
• Experience teaching in an online environment;
• Experience advising Ph.D. students through coursework and doctoral program…
