** STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

In performing this mission, the BIE takes into account the spiritual, mental, physical, and cultural aspects of school-aged children within their family and tribal community. To meet its trust responsibility to Indian Tribes, BIE works to strengthen education opportunities for American Indian students to be successful and competitive globally; to enhance student participation in their tribal communities; and support tribes in nation-building, in development of the next generation of tribal leaders.

Responsibilities:

The School Psychologist will provide service to students and staff in an educational setting by using practical understanding of the principles, methods and techniques of psychology in carrying out the duties in the fields of counseling, diagnosing, and developing remedial programs for students within the guidelines established by the Bureau's policies and procedures, related regulations and professional criteria.

Duties and Responsibilities may include:  
• Providing professional guidance, technical assistant and direction to children, parents, and staff and may monitor IEP's for students placed in such treatment centers.  
• Through consultation practices, provides problem solving methods from existing data and participates in the problem solving with staff to arrive at options for students.  
• Provides diagnostic services and observes, interviews and assesses students to determine their typical behaviors, strengths, and needs in an effort to provide students, staff, and parent's information and recommendations for resolving student's needs.  
• Prepares diagnostic evaluations with specific recommendations for use by school and individual clients to assist in the development of Individual Education Programs. Services include assessments, counseling to both individuals and groups, and clinical applications depending on the type of referral.  
• Develops intervention programs for specific students and participates with other staff in writing behavioral, education and emotional, growth programs that are workable in the academic setting.
