Overview

The Tufts Career Center advances career learning and development for undergraduate and graduate students across the School of Arts and Sciences, School of Engineering, and School of the Museum of Fine Arts ded by the H.E.R.D. Promise, the Career Center works to ensure that students graduate with more than an exceptional Tufts education, they also develop High-Value Skills, Experiential Learning, Relationships, and a Destination that prepare them for meaningful lives and careers beyond Tufts.

Through advising, career education, experiential learning, employer and alumni engagement, and career communities, the Center integrates career development throughout the student experience.

The Employer Relations team builds and stewards partnerships with employers, alumni, and other external partners to expand students' access to experiences, relationships, industry knowledge, and post-graduate opportunities. Working collaboratively with career advisors and campus partners, the team connects students with employers and alumni through recruiting, networking, career treks, shadowing, experiential learning, and other opportunities that bridge their Tufts education with the world beyond Tufts.

What

You'll Do

As a member of the Employer Relations team in the Tufts Career Center, the Assistant Director supports a comprehensive external partner engagement strategy that includes relationship building with employers and alumni to increase access to experiential learning (internships, co-ops, etc.), full-time opportunities, industry insight, and beyond, for students and alumni. The position involves:

  • Serve as a strategic partner within several industry aligned career communities to develop a shared strategy for employer and alumni engagement activities. Share responsibility for planning and outreach to employers and alumni for events within each career community.
  • Daily relationship building with contacts from public and private corporations, non-profits/NGO's and government agencies.
  • Collaborate with Alumni Engagement and University Advancement to identify opportunities to deepen relationships with highly engaged alumni and external partners interested in supporting career development for Tufts students.
  • The Assistant Director will help identify employer partners in various assigned industry sectors (usually 3 sectors) and engage the employer in strategic recruitment efforts in partnership with Tufts, including various events, activities, and academic department opportunities.
  • Regularly participate in employer engagement (on and off-site) to consult with organization representatives on recruiting strategies; therefore, they must be able to clearly and convincingly articulate the value of a Tufts education and effectively market Jumbos to potential new employers.
  • The Assistant Director is part of an employer relations team of 3 people, including an Associate Director and a Recruitment Coordinator, as well as a larger career center team of roughly 20 staff members that implements marketing strategies for the Career Center to ensure high visibility, engagement, and integration across the university community and beyond.
  • Employer Relations:
    • Identify and develop new relationships with diverse employers across the private, nonprofit, and public sectors in key areas of interest to Tufts students. Develop and manage a portfolio of 8-10 target employer organizations per career community/industry sector, with a focus on strengthening long-term relationships, expanding opportunities for internships, full-time employment, rotational and pipeline programs, and developing strategic partnerships.
    • Foster a strong alumni network within the private and public sectors to increase our ability to connect with hiring managers and opportunities for Tufts students in the Schools of Arts & Sciences, the School of Engineering, and the School of Museum of Fine Arts (SMFA) at Tufts
    • Daily engagement with the career center online recruitment platform, Handshake, as well as our CRM for managing employer relationships called Less Annoying CRM.
    • Maintain and utilize Less Annoying CRM to manage and track employer relationships, contacts, outreach, recruiting activity, and engagement. Ensure accurate and up-to-date records to support ongoing relationship development and strategic employer engagement.
