Position: Renewables Tech I, II, III - Coastal Region
Location: Warsaw

Renewables Technician – Role Overview

Renewables Technicians are primarily responsible for providing support to inverter‑based resources (I ) at multiple RRE Solar and/or Battery Storage sites in the Carolinas on a continual/on‑demand basis and for establishing O&M support for new‑site start‑up as well as long‑term operation and maintenance. Each site is unique, adding to the complexity of the position. The ideal candidate will be located in the Goldsboro, NC area.

Responsibilities
  • Perform daily operational rounds and activities, up to and including developing and implementing complex Lock‑Out‑Tag‑Outs (LOTOs).
  • Operate as a LOTO desk‑qualified technician and conduct all LOTO tasks, including research, development, isolation, independent verification, zero‑energy verification, and work‑leader duties.
  • Perform SCADA, telecommunication, inverter, battery system, and array maintenance tasks.
  • Execute routine preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Carry out contractor oversight duties.
  • Communicate with Operations Centers (RROC, TCC, ECC) regarding daily plant/equipment status and maintenance.
  • Travel daily to multiple site visits; support rotational on‑call duties in peak and baseload generation cases.
  • Maintain records related to Environmental, Health & Safety, spreadsheets, and documents.
  • Read and interpret technical OEM manuals, recommendations, and warranty agreements.
  • Perform startup duties (punch list, develop procedures/PMs, walk‑downs, commissioning activities) and start/stop units from multiple branded control systems.
  • Serve as integration lead for new sites to ensure RRE standards are met prior to hand‑over from Duke’s construction group.
  • Prepare service reports for site visits, emergency repairs, equipment modifications, and improvement investigations.
  • Enforce strict adherence to company protocols and ensure a safe, event‑free work environment.
  • Enforce procedures and processes in accordance with site‑specific O&M standards and guidelines, and review site‑specific procedures.
  • Understand and enforce BAS (BES) site requirements.
Qualifications
  • Renewables Tech I:
    Technical or Associate’s degree, or HS diploma/GED with 2 years related experience.
  • Renewables Tech II
    :
    Technical or Associate’s degree with one year of related experience, or HS diploma/GED with 3 years related experience.
  • Renewables Tech III
    :
    Technical or Associate’s degree with three years relevant experience, or HS diploma/GED with 3 years related experience.
Specific Requirements
  • Weight restriction of 275 pounds as an essential function.
  • Must live within approximately 30‑mile radius of assigned site(s)/area of responsibility.
  • Capable of passing a background check for NERC CIP.
  • Must successfully complete EEI’s Plant Operator Selection System (POSS)/Power Plant Maintenance Selection System (MASS).
  • Must successfully complete a Power Plant Physical Abilities Assessment; must pass a physical assessment.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
Job‑Specific Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong background in electrical and electronic equipment troubleshooting and repair (both AC and DC).
  • Ability to troubleshoot from schematics and use electrical test and measurement equipment.
  • Proficient with fiber‑optic network troubleshooting, HVAC systems, and chillers.
  • Knowledge of National Electrical Code and safety & environmental practices.
  • Experience with PV systems or equivalent PV training.
  • Experience with inverters and centralized SCADA NEMS control systems.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with Maximo CMMS and electrical design.
  • Working knowledge of power distribution systems and EMERSON Ovation.
  • Willingness to obtain EPA 608 Universal Refrigerant Certification.

  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively direct owners and contract company associates.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Problem‑solving ability; motivation to work independently.
  • Strong organization skills.
  • Ability to adapt to other crafts (mechanical, civil, etc.).
  • Experience with fiber optic networks.
  • Experience with Power Distribution systems.
  • Knowledge of national electrical code.
