Job Summary /

Purpose:

We are seeking a motivated and safety-conscious college intern to join our power generation team. The intern will gain hands-on experience in power plant operations by working alongside experienced plant operators and maintenance staff. This role is designed to provide exposure to real-world power generation processes, equipment monitoring, plant safety, and operational procedures while supporting daily plant activities.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

• Assist power plant operators with daily operational tasks, including monitoring plant equipment, performing quality rounds, make-up and boiler chemistry, and reporting abnormalities.
• Learn and support startup, shutdown, and normal operating procedures of power plant systems under supervision.
• Shadow operators in the control room to gain exposure to distributed control systems (DCS) and plant monitoring software.
• Assist with performance testing, efficiency checks, and equipment inspections.
• Support environmental and safety compliance activities, including data collection and reporting.
• Participate in preventative maintenance activities and work closely with maintenance crews when needed.
• Conduct basic technical research and provide assistance on special projects as assigned.
• Follow all plant safety policies, procedures, and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum education required of the position

• Candidates must be actively enrolled in an accredited college or university, pursuing a degree in Industrial Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8 (on a 4.0 scale), verified through an official transcript from the previous semester.

Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities

• Strong interest in power generation and plant operations.
• Basic mechanical and/or electrical knowledge preferred.
• Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
• Willingness to work in an industrial environment, including exposure to heat, noise, and rotating equipment.
• Ability to follow detailed instructions and maintain a strong focus on safety.
• Hands-on exposure to power plant systems, operations, and safety practices.
• Understanding of control room monitoring and distributed control systems (DCS).
• Experience working in a team-oriented environment within the utility/power generation industry.
