Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technologist Summary
Leads assigned engineering tasks and maintenance activities. At this level, the employee is expected to execute tasks with no supervision, evaluate alternative courses of action, and make independent decisions for response. Serves as a subject matter expert in the implementation of maintenance programs, systems, automation, PLCs, and processes, and leads optimization of maintenance/facilities projects for equipment reliability. Highly skilled at systematic troubleshooting of electrical and mechanical equipment issues in support of manufacturing and maintenance.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualified applicant should be familiar with Microsoft Excel, Word, and AutoCAD.
- Responsible for all PLC programming for mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and automation for equipment reliability.
- Effective and systematic equipment troubleshooting with ability to direct maintenance technicians and or contractors.
- Lead installation of industrial equipment such as machinery and automation.
- Provide technical “hands on” support to maintenance personnel on advanced troubleshooting of mechanical/electrical/control issues and planned outages.
- Develop and implement maintenance schedules, identify and order necessary parts, and ensure all equipment meets regulatory standards.
- Perform regular inspections, machine Gemba walks, make necessary repairs, and adapt or replace outdated technology or machines with newer, better models.
- Install and upgrade system components to improve system optimization and perform diagnostics to locate necessary adjustments.
- Promote the effective use and accuracy of the departmental CMMS, i.e., work orders, PMs, spare parts, and critical spares.
- Participate in the evaluation team skillset and provide recommendations on internal or external training.
- Analyze and determine best action, identify improvement opportunities for installed equipment.
- Reduce operational costs through cost-reduction ideas and initiatives.
- Mentor and train maintenance technicians.
Supervise or lead maintenance technicians as required.

- Exercise discretion and ability to work independently on all projects as required.
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in manufacturing or electro‑mechanical engineering technology, or completion of trade school, or an associate degree in engineering technology or closely related discipline with at least 7 years related work experience.
- Prior supervisory or lead technician experience preferred.
- PLC/Robotic programming experience.
- Detail oriented with strong written and verbal communication and analytical skills.
- Familiar with Microsoft Excel, Word, and AutoCAD.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently walks, sits, and uses hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work is performed in an industrial setting with varying temperatures, loud noise, and heavy activity. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.
