The Engineering Manager has 5+yrs experience using root cause analysis tools and techniques in metal casting, heat treatment, and machining. They will lead and/or participate with problem solving teams to improve or resolve issues affecting the financial stability of the company; identify root causes and determine corrective action plans to prevent recurrence in an organized and expeditious manner. Works closely with sales to manage products from quoting to product launch including leading customer-facing technical reviews, providing direction and collaboration on product, tooling design, and casting process.
This individual will lead and develop our employees and teams to increase operating efficiencies by understanding how to identify and eliminate waste. The ideal candidate will be experienced in implementing LEAN methodologies to improve productivity and quality. They will also have outstanding customer service and teamwork qualities.
- Clear and effective communication and presentation skills on design or process optimization initiatives to senior members of management and other operating groups within the company
- Works closely with Sales on RFQ’s providing a clear understanding of product design related issues; casting, heat treating, and machining.
- Uses casting simulation software to explain root cause and offer suggestions to improve or eliminate potential issues.
- Supports Quality with experience in statistical methods, able to use SPC software (mini-tab and/or other software) and participates & evaluates process capability studies.
- Supports quality managers with metrics and key performance indicators that provide data for process measurement and drive key decisions for improvement within the business.
- Assists quality managers in APQP activities, including documentation, process development, measurement systems, and capability studies.
- Supports quality managers with SPC charting significant features in the machining departments by analyzing data and making suggestions to improve capability.
- Supports Production improvements by engaging in daily scrap analysis and works with manufacturing supervisors on improvement efforts.
- Identifies root cause and offers corrective actions to aluminum casting, heat treating and machining issues.
- Creates, Process/Product Change request/Notifications (PPCRN's), obtains approval, makes samples, collects evidence of improvement (or no improvement) and follows through to closure.
- Understand and leads team in value stream mapping as well as support Product / Project Mgr. in the layout of equipment / workspace for 5S.
- Understands OEE and leads improvement activity.
- Using Continuous Improvement and LEAN methodologies, partners with General Managers and plant leadership to create best in class operations.
- Knowledgeable of PFMEA and participates in creation, updates as part of corrective action, and quarterly reviews for RPN reduction.
- Executes and improves upon the GAMCO Operating Model in driving critical financial and operating improvements and savings annually.
- Drives the Company’s use of policy deployment and breakthrough initiatives to improve results utilizing best practices and proven tools.
- Industrial or Mechanical Engineering Required, bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy is preferred
- Master’s Degree preferred
- Experience in automotive applications with aluminum casting and heat-treating
- Knowledge in high pressure, low pressure and gravity perm mold is required
- Full understanding and use of problem-solving methods, lean manufacturing six sigma and practices needed to reduce process variation, reduce scrap and improve
- Prior experience managing LEAN programs/projects with a proven track record.
- Excellent computer skills, and a solid financial and engineering background is required.
- Certified LEAN Blackbelt or Shanin RedX training desirable.
- Required travel between plant locations to manage multiple improvement projects (10-20%)
- Prior engineering supervisory experience required.
Climate controlled office environment with exposure to a manufacturing/foundry setting
