Highway Technician II (Pay Grade 13) – Salary $26.29 - $30.21 Hourly – Full Time, Executive Branch, Eligible for Overtime Pay, 18A, 40.0 HR/WK.

By joining our Central City Section as a Highway Technician II in Muhlenberg County, you’ll have the opportunity to plan, oversee, and evaluate project construction and maintenance contract tasks such as small resurfacing projects, review certification of tests & perform inspections, review project costs, revise and project scheduling.

Summary Of Responsibilities
  • Coordinates highway construction or maintenance projects and inspects mowing and snow removal contracts.
  • Performs tasks requiring the application of technical principles in the design, development and review of small engineering projects while learning to perform more advanced technical functions.
  • Plans, organizes, assists, and inspects the proper installation of traffic control and safety of job sites.
  • Oversees basic quality assurance materials sampling and testing such as concrete slump and temperature, and asphalt content and density.
  • Completes materials testing report forms.
Ideal Candidate Experience
  • 8 years of construction or highway maintenance.
  • Experience inspecting highway construction and maintenance projects.
  • Class A CDL with tanker endorsement.

Additional position information: travel required, standing/stooping/bending/lifting, sitting at a desk, etc. Must be able to work, sit, stoop, bend, lift & carry 50 lbs, and respond to emergencies.

Minimum Requirements
  • EDUCATION: High school graduate.
  • EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR

    SKILLS:

    Must have eight years of construction or highway maintenance experience.
  • Substitute EDUCATION for

    EXPERIENCE:

    Graduate of a college or university with an associate's degree in engineering technology, construction management, engineering science, engineering mechanics, geology, earth science, industrial drafting, design technology, construction technology or a related field will substitute for two (2) years of highway related experience in construction and maintenance. Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in engineering will substitute for four (4) years of highway related experience in construction and maintenance.

    Graduate of a college or university with an associate's degree in Engineering Technology with completion of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet's Civil Engineering Technology Scholarship Program will substitute for six (6) years of highway related experience in construction or maintenance. College coursework related to any of these fields will substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.

Special Requirements (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.)
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a Class A commercial driver's license with tanker endorsement to qualify for employment in this job classification.
