Position Overview
Amentum is seeking an Industrial Hygienist to support operations at the DOE National Energy Technology Laboratory in Morgantown, WV. The position reports to the R&D SARS Supervisor and works closely with federal and contract researchers, site technicians, engineers and other ES&H professionals.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct thorough assessments of R&D work activities to identify potential health hazards associated with research activities.
- Implement and oversee exposure monitoring programs for asbestos, lead, radiation, noise, ergonomics, air quality, heat stress and other hazards.
- Develop and maintain industrial hygiene programs including chemical hygiene plans, respiratory protection programs, hearing conservation programs and laser safety programs.
- Develop, perform and present safety and health training courses such as HAZCOM, lab safety, PPE, respirator fit testing, asbestos, lead and chemical specific training.
- Conduct evaluations of the physical, chemical and toxicological properties of substances associated with R&D work activities.
- Review and understand lab‑scale R&D projects for potential hazards, exposure pathways and acceptable mitigations.
- Review engineering drawings (plot plans, PFDs, P&) for potential points of failure and ensure conformance to applicable ES&H codes and standards.
- Lead and participate in annual safety and compliance assessments of R&D projects.
- Schedule and chair hazard identification and analysis meetings for on‑site projects undergoing review.
- Prepare hazard analysis reports for review and approval following NETL’s internal process.
- For new projects or major modifications, work within the formal Project Management Plan process to estimate work activities and review project schedules.
- U.S. Citizen
- B.S. degree in Safety Engineering/Management or Industrial Hygiene
- Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
- At least ten (10) years of experience in Industrial Hygiene
- Master’s degree
- Experience in a research environment
$95,000+ (the compensation range may vary based on job responsibilities, education, experience, skills, internal equity, market data, collective bargaining agreements and relevant laws).
