We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join a small, highly collaborative engineering team working on copper Ethernet cabling systems and hybrid fiber/copper solutions. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys a hands on, broad technical scope and thrives in a dynamic, fast moving development environment.
Key Responsibilities- Technical Engineering & Development:
Support the design, analysis, and validation of copper Ethernet cabling systems, including twisted pair performance characteristics (impedance, insertion loss, crosstalk, return loss, etc.) - Contribute to the development and evaluation of hybrid fiber power (HFP/FMPS) and powered communications systems, including power delivery, protection, and integration considerations.
- Assist with electrical modeling, simulation, and lab measurement of cables, connectors, and system level performance.
- Participate in failure analysis and root cause investigations related to electrical and signal integrity issues.
- Testing & Validation:
Conduct and document laboratory testing (electrical, thermal, environmental, and EMC related tests) using network analyzers, oscilloscopes, power supplies, data loggers, and related instrumentation. - Support development and execution of test plans aligned with industry standards (TIA, IEEE, IEC, UL, NEC, and others as applicable).
- Cross Functional
Collaboration:
Work closely with mechanical, manufacturing, quality, and compliance teams; support interaction with suppliers, contract manufacturers, and field personnel; assist with preparation of technical documentation, drawings, reports, and internal design reviews. - Continuous Learning & Support:
Stay current with evolving Ethernet, cabling, and power delivery technologies; support product development related activities and product qualification efforts; support standards development through participation and contribution; support the industry through peer reviewed publication; provide technical assistance during prototyping, pilot builds, and early deployments.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required.
- 3‑5+ years of relevant engineering experience.
- Strong foundation in circuit analysis, electromagnetics and signal integrity, AC/DC power fundamentals, RF principles.
- Ability to work effectively in a small team, multi‑disciplinary environment.
- Willingness to be hands on in both lab and office settings.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- 10+ years of relevant engineering experience preferred.
- Exposure to structured cabling systems, Ethernet PHYs, or high speed copper links.
- Familiarity with vector network analyzers (VNAs), time domain reflectometry (TDR), power electronics or fault‑managed power concepts.
- Experience with MATLAB, Python, or similar tools for data analysis.
- Awareness of TIA, IEEE
802, UL, NEC, or IEC standards. - Curious and adaptable; a technical generalist comfortable wearing multiple hats.
- Comfortable moving between analysis, testing, documentation, and troubleshooting.
- Motivated by real‑world engineering problems rather than narrow specialization.
- Interested in working close to the hardware and understanding how systems behave end to end.
Small, collaborative engineering team backed by a large enterprise. Mix of hands‑on laboratory work and analytical/problem‑solving tasks. Exposure to both product development and standards driven engineering.
