JOB PURPOSE:
The Automations Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing automation systems to improve the efficiency, quality, and safety of manufacturing processes within the automotive industry. This role involves the integration of advanced control systems, robotics, sensors, and PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) systems to support production goals. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of automation technologies and a passion for driving continuous improvement in a high-paced automotive manufacturing environment.
- Design and implement automation systems, including robotic cells, conveyor systems, automated assembly lines, and vision systems.
- Develop and program PLC and SCADA systems to control automated equipment and integrate with other production systems.
- Create system layouts, process flow diagrams, and detailed schematics for automation solutions.
- Integrate automation systems with existing manufacturing equipment and software to streamline production workflows.
- Perform system testing, troubleshooting, and calibration to ensure optimal performance.
- Optimize automation systems for speed, quality, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
- Provide technical support and resolve issues related to automated systems, robots, conveyors, and other production machinery.
- Conduct root cause analysis to identify equipment failure causes and implement corrective actions.
- Develop and maintain preventative maintenance plans for automation systems.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams (production, quality, R&D, IT, etc.) to identify automation opportunities and process improvements.
- Train operators and maintenance staff on the proper use, troubleshooting, and maintenance of automation systems.
- Support other departments by collecting, analyzing, and presenting data necessary for decision-making.
- Lead and support automation projects from conception to implementation, ensuring adherence to project timelines, budget, and scope.
- Collaborate with external suppliers and contractors for the procurement and installation of automation equipment.
- Monitor project progress and provide regular updates to senior management.
- Ensure all automation systems comply with industry regulations, safety standards (such as ISO, OSHA, EPA CE, UL), and safety & environmental requirements.
- Develop safety procedures and protocols for operating automated machinery in a high-risk manufacturing environment.
- Responsible for working with the Engineering and Quality departments to ensure compliance to the change management process; must have working knowledge of product deviation release, technical change process, CTM project.
- Must have working knowledge of the Core Tools used to support the Quality Management system, including but not limited to, problem solving, product launches, and continuous improvement activities.
