JOB PURPOSE:
The Controls Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and supervising all aspects of electrical control systems.
- Responsible for the installation and technical support of PLC based hardware and software.
- Design control systems for mechanical and hydraulic manufacturing equipment.
- Ensure installation and commissioning meet design standards.
- Design, implement, maintain, and improve electrical instruments.
- Assists in identifying the technologies to be used for engineering projects.
- Industrial Equipment and Automation Controls procurement and integration.
- Visual Basic programming for Production data collection and traceability.
- PLC, HMI, and robot programming, debug and troubleshooting.
- Electrical troubleshooting and debugging.
- Develop and maintain electrical systems to ensure a safe working environment.
- Improve quality and manufacturing process performance.
- Design and programming of PLC's and variable frequency drives
- Assist Maintenance with troubleshooting equipment and controls related issues
- Performs system specification, design, architecture, and development for Control Systems
- Program Rockwell / Siemens PLCs, Networking and HMI
- Develop standards, procedures, manuals, and other documentation for projects.
- Perform design and implementation of Compressor and Pumps Control System.
- Perform basic troubleshooting of communications networks and wiring.
- Study project and customer specification documents and develop control package accordingly
- Responsible for working with the Engineering and Quality departments to ensure compliance to the change management process; must have working knowledge of product deviation release, technical change process, CTM project.
- Maintain product safety in all designs
Experience, Competencies and Education
An experienced leader with appropriate industry experience, preferably in the automotive manufacturing field. An energetic, forward-thinking and creative individual with high ethical standards and an appropriate professional image. A strategic visionary with sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment and strong operational focus. A well organized and self-directed individual who is a team player. An articulate individual who can relate to people at all levels of an organization and possesses excellent communication skills.
A good educator who is trustworthy and willing to share information and serve as a mentor. A decisive individual who possesses a "big picture" perspective and is well versed in systems. Minimum required two-year technical degree or equivalent; five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Desired Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
- PLC programming proficiency with Siemens and Allen Bradley products.
- Ability to troubleshoot and maintain PLC / DCS / HMI programming and configuration.
- Ability to perform computer aided-design and drafting tasks implementing AutoCAD (or equivalent).
- Ability to read electrical schematics, Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&’s) and Process Flow Diagrams (PFD’s)
