Location: Northern

Audubon is currently seeking a Senior Estimator to join our team in our Houston, TX Energy Corridor office. Under the general direction of the Project Controls Manager and/or Estimating Manager the Sr. Estimator works independently to calculate labor and material costs for equipment, systems, construction and engineering in the development of all levels Capital Cost Budgets for projects from (ROM to Definitive).

The Sr. Estimator prepares TIC (Total Installed Cost) estimates developed from varying levels of information from input that is conceptual or order of magnitude, from front-end engineering or from detailed engineering stages of the project's development for (E)-engineering, (EP)-engineering and procurement, and/or (EPC) engineering, procurement and construction projects. He/she develops reports to communicate these cost calculations to Project Management and/or the Client.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Key competencies must include the ability to develop comprehensive cost estimates and associated clarifications and exceptions reports.
  • Demonstrates advanced ability to generate accurate cost estimates using Aspen In-Plant Cost Estimator (Icarus) and/or Aspen Capital Cost Estimator (Kbase) estimating software.
  • Capable of developing estimates for a variety of industrial projects including Oil and Gas, Refinery, Petrochemical, Agricultural, Pulp and Paper, and other various industrial manufacturing processes and systems.
  • Accurately interprets preliminary process PFDs, P&IDs, equipment specifications and data sheets for input to the estimating software.
  • Comprehensive background in industrial equipment packaging, facilities and field construction.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of financial and commercial issues related to contract execution in a competitive and aggressive industry.
  • Develops and maintains the TIC estimate plan, Basis of Estimate and identifies risks and mitigation opportunities.
  • Identifies, conceptualizes & plans resources (i.e. manpower, capital, facilities & material expenses) in the estimate development.
  • Must be capable of independent work in fast paced, schedule driven environments.
  • Analyzes specifications, sketches, blueprints, bills of material, or sample layouts, and calculates costs using labor and material pricing schedules and historical data.
  • Computes cost estimates of raw materials or subcontracted work and labor.
  • Creates cost models for estimating elements of scope.
  • Prepares cost reports and presents findings to management, contract personnel, proposal coordinators, client representatives, vendors, and subcontractors.
  • Understands various methods of producing estimate elements: (i.e., Labor unit installation rates for equipment, factored estimates from equipment, buildup of craft rates, bulk and commodity unit costs, Start-up costs, Construction Indirects, Escalation and Contingency).
  • Functions as a productive team member in the development of engineering projects from conception to completion.
  • Reviews and analyzes Notices of Change and Requests for Change.
  • Manages drawings, related design documents and other cost data in developing cost.
  • Performs take-offs as needed.
  • Obtains Supplier Quotes.
  • Visits work-sites to see site conditions in order to include unforeseen conditions.
  • Prepare Order of Magnitude Cost Estimates for potential changes.
  • Prepare Independent Cost Estimates for changes.
  • Leads the project team thru the process of preparing the estimate and conducts risk analysis to ensure estimate accuracy.
  • Prepare Variance Summaries.
  • Prepare Cost Analysis with Explanation of Variances (Quantity, Unit price, or inconsistencies in Contractor’s estimates).
  • Meets with Contractor Estimators for any scope clarifications.
  • Clarifies cost related questions and works as a team-member to meet project goals.
