As an Electrical Engineer I, you will begin building your engineering career by supporting the planning, design, analysis, and implementation of electrical systems for utility and infrastructure projects. Working under the guidance of experienced engineers and project leaders, you will assist with engineering calculations, design development, technical reviews, and project documentation while gaining exposure to utility engineering standards and industry best practices.
This role is ideal for an entry-level engineer who is eager to learn, develop technical expertise, and contribute to projects that support the safe and reliable delivery of power to communities and businesses.
Location: Remote (Candidates must be based in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Missouri, or Iowa)
Key Responsibilities Engineering & Design Support- Assist in the preparation of electrical engineering designs, drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
- Support the development and review of single-line diagrams, wiring schematics, equipment layouts, and construction drawings.
- Perform basic engineering calculations, including load calculations, voltage drop analysis, conductor sizing, and equipment selection.
- Assist with the design of overhead and underground electrical distribution systems under the supervision of senior engineers.
- Support substation and utility infrastructure design activities, including preparation of engineering deliverables and project documentation.
- Review engineering drawings and design packages for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with project requirements.
- Participate in project planning, design reviews, and coordination meetings.
- Assist project teams with gathering data, organizing technical information, and preparing project documentation.
- Support engineering teams in maintaining project schedules and meeting deliverable deadlines.
- Assist with the preparation of engineering reports, calculations, material lists, and construction packages.
- Maintain accurate engineering records, calculations, revisions, and project documentation.
- Participate in field visits, site assessments, and project walk-downs to collect data and verify existing conditions.
- Assist with documenting field observations and supporting design recommendations.
- Provide support during construction, testing, commissioning, and system energization activities as needed.
- Respond to technical questions from project teams and support resolution of routine engineering issues.
- Assist in ensuring designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements, including NEC, NESC, IEEE, and utility specifications.
- Support quality assurance and quality control reviews of engineering deliverables.
- Demonstrate a commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement in all aspects of work.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.
- 0-2 years of engineering experience, including internships, co-op programs, or relevant project experience.
- Valid Driver’s License with the ability to travel to client sites and project locations as needed.
- Familiarity with engineering principles, electrical systems, and technical problem-solving methodologies.
- Basic understanding of electrical distribution, utility infrastructure, or power systems concepts.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Internship or co-op experience with an engineering consulting firm, utility company, EPC contractor, or industrial organization.
- Familiarity with electrical distribution, substations, power systems, or utility operations.
- Exposure to AutoCAD, Micro Station, GIS, or other engineering design software.
- Familiarity with engineering analysis software and utility design tools.
