As a Mechanical Engineer II your primary responsibility is to design, validate, and implement rotor-mounted telemetry systems and associated electronics enclosures. This mid-level role balances technical engineering design with hands-on manufacturing integration, cross-functional collaboration with Sales and Technicians, and robust documentation practices to support continuous product innovation.
Additional Duties:
- Design and develop rotary telemetry systems, including electronic enclosures and the analysis of centrifugal forces.
- Perform mechanical design and analysis using computer-assisted engineering (CAE) software.
- Develop design documentation and parametric models utilizing Solid Works 3D software.
- Utilize Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software tools to evaluate and validate structural integrity.
- Leverage artificial intelligence (AI) tools to optimize mechanical designs, automate modeling, and accelerate structural simulations.
- Complete product designs independently upon receiving project definitions and design inputs from Senior Engineers.
- Research and analyze existing products to understand performance characteristics, manufacturing impacts, and cost drivers to propose innovative materials and design improvements.
Quality, Testing & Manufacturing Support
- Perform incoming inspection, troubleshooting, and validation of production parts and prototypes using calipers and gauges.
- Identify critical dimensions and tolerances on manufacturing drawings for vendor use and incoming quality control.
- Apply knowledge of a broad range of materials (including composites and steels) and their specific machining requirements.
- Integrate and assemble telemetry system first articles and author corresponding manufacturing work instructions.
- Document designs, test procedures, and engineering results in alignment with company and industry standards.
- Support the creation of customer-targeted product manuals.
- Utilize the company’s ERP system effectively to support design, procurement, and manufacturing workflows.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (electrical, manufacturing, and software/firmware engineers) to ensure reliable system performance.
- Partner with vendors to source high-quality components at competitive costs while seeking design-for-manufacturing (DFM) guidance.
- Apply functional knowledge of risk management methodologies to mitigate risks in new designs.
- Drive continuous improvement efforts focused on system design, manufacturability, and reliability.
- Mentor and oversee engineering co-ops, interns, and entry-level engineers or designers.
- Provide rapid response for internal and external technical support needs.
- Assist in field service activities, including remote support and traveling to customer sites, company sites, training, and trade shows as required
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education:
BS in Engineering program or related field or equivalent work experience. - Experience:
5 years’ relevant experience as an entry level Mechanical Engineer, with demonstrated design, test, and self-direction. Experience in a technical field or advanced degrees relevant to the position will be considered. Solid Works 3D modeling software - Travel Requirement:
