Assistant Chief Engineer

Assistant Chief Engineer | Commercial Office, Manhattan | $40-$42 per hour Your new company

Hays Facilities Management has partnered with a New York-based owner/operator, who are looking to hire an Assistant Chief Engineer for their commercial office property in Midtown.

Reporting to the Chief Engineer, the Assistant Chief will help oversee the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and performance of all building systems while supporting a team of engineers and maintenance staff. Responsibilities will include:

• Assist with the operation and maintenance of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, life safety, and building automation systems.
• Direct engineering staff and contractors to ensure optimal building performance.
• Oversee preventive maintenance programs and ensure work orders are completed efficiently.
• Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical equipment issues and coordinate repairs as needed.
• Monitor vendor performance and assist with capital improvement and building projects.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable safety regulations, local laws, and company standards.
• Maintain strong relationships with tenants and property management teams to deliver exceptional service.

• 5+ years progressive experience operating and maintaining commercial office buildings.
• Previous experience in a Lead Engineer, Assistant Chief Engineer, or similar leadership capacity.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, mechanical, and building automation systems.
• Experience managing preventive maintenance programs and vendor relationships.
• Familiarity with building compliance, life safety systems, and operational best practices.
• Relevant licensing and certifications preferred, including FDNY and NYC Department of Buildings certifications.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to build relationships with tenants, vendors, and colleagues.

• Hourly rate between $40-$42
