Position: Transmission Line Engineering Permitting Agent - Engineering Technologist I
Location: Northern

Mobility

Hybrid – Work will be performed from both remote and an onsite location after the onboarding period, with a minimum of three days a week being spent working at the Duke Energy Lake Mary office location. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to the designated Duke Energy facility.

Role Specific Responsibilities
  • Management of consultants preparing and submitting permits
  • Preparation, submission, and tracking of local, state, federal, railroad, and FDOT permits
  • Regulatory compliance oversight, including permit conditions, renewals, and amendments
  • Management of agency relationships and responses to governmental requests
  • Stay informed of evolving permitting requirements
  • Support for emergency permitting to enable rapid restoration efforts
  • Tracking of permit costs, expirations, and extensions to avoid delays or non‑compliance

  • Applies technical expertise in the identification, analysis, and resolution of problems in area of expertise
  • Ensures accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities
  • Applies beginner level knowledge in preparing thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches
  • Strives to continually improve job‑related, technical, and professional knowledge, skills, and performance
  • Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities
  • Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Maintains accurate records and files
  • Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally
Required/Basic Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology
  • In lieu of associate’s degree(s), High School/GED AND 2 year(s) related work experience
Desired Qualifications

Prior experience obtaining and managing permits with governmental agencies

Good written and oral communication skills

Experience in the utility industry

Demonstrates skills applying leadership in the areas of technical project management, program oversight, and/or governance

Willingness and comfort in speaking to internal and external groups in permitting expertise while negotiating new processes and practices

Working Conditions

  • Specific Requirements:
    Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of individuals from various socio‑economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, internal and external to Duke Energy
  • Minimum of Associates of Science in Engineering Technology, or 2+ years of experience without a degree
  • Additional

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Experience in the utility industry
  • Understanding of basic principles of project management
  • Some business units may require visits to field sites and/or plants
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of individuals from various socio‑economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds
  • Either Associate Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology with no experience, or 2+ years equivalent industry experience without a degree
