As an Environmental Technician at Wheatland Tube, a division of Zekelman Industries, you will play a key role in supporting environmental compliance, wastewater treatment operations, and sustainability initiatives at the facility. This position requires strong attention to detail, technical aptitude, and a commitment to regulatory compliance while contributing directly to environmental performance, operational efficiency, and workplace safety. You will collaborate with the Environmental Manager and departments across the facility, ensuring compliance with environmental permits, reporting requirements, and regulatory obligations.
This is a full-time, on-site role located in Wheatland, PA. This role is perfect for someone who thrives in an industrial environment, enjoys problem-solving, is highly organized, and is passionate about environmental stewardship and compliance.
- Operate, monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain industrial wastewater treatment systems to ensure safe and compliant operations.
- Maintain compliance with NPDES permit requirements, including monitoring, sampling, reporting, and recordkeeping activities.
- Prepare and submit PADEP discharge monitoring reports in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Communicate wastewater treatment system issues and environmental concerns to the Environmental Manager.
- Operate filter press equipment and perform wastewater treatment facility housekeeping activities.
- Ensure compliance with TVOP permit conditions, emissions monitoring requirements, emissions tracking, and environmental documentation.
- Perform daily and weekly visible emissions observations and maintain associated compliance records.
- Manage hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams in accordance with applicable regulations and company procedures.
- Conduct facility inspections related to stormwater systems, waste management practices, and storage tanks.
- Maintain accurate environmental records, inspection logs, compliance documentation, and regulatory reports.
- Provide environmental compliance guidance and technical support to departments throughout the facility.
- Travel to multiple locations within Pennsylvania and Ohio as needed to support environmental initiatives and compliance activities.
- Lead and promote healthy and safe work practices as required by regulatory agencies and Company policy.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Two or more years of experience in environmental compliance, wastewater treatment, or a related role within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Bachelor's degree in Physical Science, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Knowledge of wastewater treatment systems, environmental permitting, sampling practices, compliance reporting, and recordkeeping requirements.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information appropriately.
