Senior Materials Engineer – Tribology of PolymersA Snapshot of Your DayThis role will be the primary technical consult for tribology of polymer components for the TI CP business. The responsibilities will range from developing and implementing life cycle studies for existing polymer components (ring and rider bands) for the reciprocating product line to collaboration with existing and future suppliers of polymer compounds to increase the design capabilities for emerging green markets.
How You’ll Make An Impact
- Ability to self-direct and independently solve problems
- Provide technical support in tribology
- Create internal lab to support and grow in-house tribological and surface analysis development
- Knowledge of traditional and advanced manufacturing for precision metal and non-metal parts
- Experience in post-service evaluation and failure analysis
- Guide development engineers on material selection and simulation
- Act as primary technical contact for suppliers and customers.
- Support material testing by inspection, analysis, and reporting of post-test results
- Create and follow standardized procedures related to material selection and processing
What You Bring
- Bachelor of Science in either Material Science or Engineering
- 15+ years’ experience in Material sciences. Those with more experience may be considered for a more senior level.
- Expertise of wear with lubricated and non-lubricated metallic and non-metallic surfaces
- Expertise with polymer materials solutions for reciprocating applications
- Practical knowledge testing polymer wear materials to estimate life
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Familiarity with the design aspects of critical reciprocating compressor components such as pistons, cylinders, cylinder liners, heads, and crankshafts
- Familiarity with risk analysis, exceptional technical analysis skills to determine root cause of failure and provide feedback and recommendations
