The Commissioning Engineer plays a key technical role in the successful installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and optimization of Quantum’s marine stabilization systems. The position has a particular focus on controls, electronics, PLCs, HMIs, electrical systems, sensors, motor controls, drives, and vessel system integration. The Commissioning Engineer works directly with shipyards, vessel operators, electrical contractors, and other equipment suppliers to ensure Quantum systems are installed correctly, configured properly, fully tested, and performing to specification.

The Commissioning Engineer will work closely with Quantum’s Engineering, Project Management, Service, Production, and Commissioning teams to identify and resolve technical issues, support sea trials, optimize system performance, and provide feedback to improve Quantum’s products and commissioning processes.

Core duties include but are not limited to the following:

• Act as the primary technical representative for Quantum on-site during commissioning, new build, retrofit, warranty, and service activities.
• Commission, configure, test, and troubleshoot Quantum systems, with particular emphasis on controls, software, and electronics.
• Perform installation inspections and verify that electrical, electronic, control, and instrumentation systems have been installed in accordance with requirements, drawings, and specifications.
• Configure and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, soft starters, motor controls, sensors, actuators, relays, contractors, control panels, and associated electronic equipment.
• Diagnose electrical and control-system faults using schematics, software tools, test equipment, and systematic troubleshooting techniques.
• Perform PLC and HMI software configuration, parameterization, testing, and updates as required.
• Verify communication and integration between Quantum systems and vessel control systems, including applicable marine automation and communication networks.
• Support testing and commissioning of Quantum equipment from initial power-up through dock trials and sea trials.
• Conduct functional testing of control systems, alarms, interlocks, safety functions, feedback devices, and operating modes.
• Identify, analyze, and resolve system failures and performance issues, including determining whether the root cause is electrical, electronic, software, hydraulic, mechanical, installation-related, or related to system integration.
• Perform root-cause analysis and prepare technical reports where required.
• Recommend and implement system adjustments and optimization measures to ensure Quantum equipment performs in accordance with design requirements.
• Work closely with shipyard electricians, electrical contractors, automation engineers, vessel crew, subcontractors, and other equipment manufacturers to resolve commissioning issues.
• Lead and coordinate commissioning activities when assigned as the technical lead on a project.
• Provide technical support to customers by phone, email, and remote connection when required.
• Provide technical feedback to the Engineering team regarding recurring issues, product improvements, software changes, and commissioning requirements.
• Assist the Engineering and Service departments with the development and improvement of commissioning procedures, test protocols, troubleshooting guides, and technical documentation.
• Lead FAT, SAT, dock trials, sea trials, and final customer acceptance activities as required.
• Ensure commissioning punch lists are accurately maintained and closed in a timely manner.
• Prepare tools, test equipment, software, documentation, and spare parts required for upcoming commissioning assignments.
