The City of Fort Myers is seeking an experienced City Utilities Engineer to lead the planning, design, construction management, repair, and maintenance of the City's water, sewer, reuse, and related utility infrastructure.

This senior leadership position manages the Utilities Engineering function, supervises engineering staff, develops capital improvement projects, oversees construction contracts, coordinates regulatory permitting, and provides professional engineering guidance to City staff and leadership.

• Manage and supervise Utilities Engineering staff.
• Provide professional engineering support to City staff regarding the operation and maintenance of infrastructure.
• Represent the City in engineering matters before county, state, and federal agencies.
• Research field conditions and budgetary resources and develop capital improvement projects for City water, sewer, and other facilities.
• Provide project management for capital improvement projects.
• Oversee the implementation of construction contracts to ensure code compliance, the quality of work and materials, and the proper operation of facilities upon completion.
• Provide advice and guidance on engineering matters, including the approval or disapproval of annexations, variances, conditional uses, and vacations.
  Meet with the City's consultants on water, sewer, and special projects to communicate applicable City requirements and codes.
• Prepare, submit, and implement permit applications to federal and state authorities for the operation of water and sewer plants, water withdrawals, water use, reuse water, streets, and other facilities.
• Prepare and manage the Utilities Engineering budget and assist with planning and implementing the Capital Improvements Budget for utility projects.
  Attend City Council meetings as required.
• Maintain regular and reliable attendance and a physical presence in the workplace.
  Perform other duties as assigned.

A bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field from an accredited four-year college or university.

Experience and training that provide the required knowledge, skills, abilities, and essential job functions may be substituted for the degree.

Ten years of progressively responsible experience in public works, planning, design, contract administration, or related work, including at least two years in an administrative and supervisory capacity.

A valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Florida or registration as a Professional Engineer in another state with the ability to obtain a Florida Professional Engineer license within one year.

A master's degree from an accredited college or university.

Five years of experience in local government or a similar environment.
