Environmental Project Scientist; Due Diligence & Site Assessment

As part of our growing Indianapolis environmental team, you'll lead and deliver a variety of environmental due diligence, site investigation, compliance, and remediation projects across Indiana and the Midwest. This role is ideal for an experienced environmental professional with Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) experience who enjoys managing projects, solving complex environmental challenges, and building strong client relationships.

You’ll conduct and oversee Phase I and Phase II ESAs, environmental sampling and subsurface investigations, risk evaluations, permitting, remediation support, and regulatory compliance activities. Working with commercial, industrial, transportation, institutional, manufacturing, and real estate clients, you’ll analyze environmental data, prepare technical reports and proposals, and provide solutions that support redevelopment, risk management, and informed business decisions. Success in this role requires strong technical expertise, project management skills, and a client-focused mindset, along with the ability to work independently while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

• Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
• Manage, direct, and perform ASTM Phase I ESAs and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments in accordance with federal and state standards.
• Evaluate soil, groundwater, vapor intrusion, and other environmental data to develop conclusions and recommendations.
• Direct field activities, including drilling, sampling, testing, data collection, site documentation, and subcontractor oversight.
• Prepare and review technical reports, work plans, proposals, cost estimates, and other project deliverables.
• Manage project resources, scope, schedules, budgets, quality, profitability, and overall execution.
• Perform technical analyses and ensure compliance with applicable regulations, industry standards, and company quality requirements.
• Build client relationships and support business development through proposals, client interactions, presentations, and identification of new opportunities.
• Evaluates complex laboratory and field data and assembles in written reports.
• Works under the supervision of a Terracon Authorized Project Reviewer.
• Begin documented mentoring and application process for Terracon Authorized Project Reviewer certification.

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or related science field and a minimum of 7 years’ related experience. Or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 11 years’ related experience.
• Master’s degree or PhD preferred.
• Demonstrated experience conducting and reviewing Phase I and Phase II ESAs.
• Working knowledge of ASTM E1527, CERCLA, RCRA, and state environmental regulations.
• Strong technical writing and project management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Environmental Professional (EP) qualification under ASTM standards.
• A valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history may be required.
