Grayson Highlands State Parkis accepting applications for aVisitor Service Technician position.

Job Summary:

The Visitor Service Technician role is vital to supporting park visitation and ensuring the efficient completion of essential customer service duties. The selected individual should beself-motivated and organized to successfully assist park management with administrative and retail functions. This providesofficesupport servicesandcoverage at theparkoffice, gift shops, and contact station.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality customer service and communicate effectively with guests via phone, email, and in-person.
  • Perform clerical duties, including operation of computers, cash registers, copiers, and handheld radios.
  • Provide information for park visitors, including detailed information on campsites, park fees, directions, pricing, annual passes, trail information, park educational programs, and local area information.
  • Perform generalofficeadministration duties as assigned; ensure workspace, front desk, and other customer contact areas are neat and clean; and serve as support staff for park leadership.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently while handling multiple tasks.
  • Provide coverage at the park’s contact station, parkoffice, and retail locations as needed.
  • Assist theOffice

    Manager and theOffice Manager Assistant with  the retail merchandising program, including receiving, processing, distributing, and inventorying merchandise for resale.
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts. Weekends and holidays are required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Prior knowledge and experience in retail management and cash management procedures.
  • Must be able to adapt quickly to changing priorities, handle multiple tasks, and prioritize work to meet deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Officeor similarofficeapplications required.
  • Experience using a cash register.
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude and work well with park staff, support organizations, and the public.
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License.

Additional Considerations:

  • General knowledge of park operations and local attractions preferred.
  • Experience providing administrative support and knowledge of the park is desirable.
  • Prior experience in customer service, park setting, or related field is desirable, but not required.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues.

  • Background Check:

    Employment in all Virginia State Parks positions is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a criminal history background check.
  • Employment Eligibility:

    Selected candidates must complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. DCR participates in E-Verify.
  • Driver’s License Requirement:

    A valid State Driver's License is required if operating a state or personal vehicle for agency business.
  • Work Requirements:

    Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.
