Sarasota Opera is seeking a skilled and dynamic Assistant Conductor/Pianist for the 2025 Winter Season. This role will provide essential support in rehearsals, performances, and production needs, contributing to the artistic excellence of our 2025 repertoire, which includes Cavalleria rusticana, Pagliacci, Il barbiere di Siviglia, Le nozze di Figaro, and Stiffelio.
This is an ideal opportunity for a pianist and conductor with a strong foundation in opera and a passion for collaborative artistry.
Key ResponsibilitiesRehearsal Pianist:
Play for staging, musical, and ensemble rehearsals, working closely with singers, conductors, and directors.
Backstage Conducting:
Support stage management and production staff by conducting from backstage as needed during performances.
Supertitles Operation:
Operate supertitles during rehearsals and performances, ensuring accurate timing and coordination with the onstage action.
Singer
Coaching:
Coach singers on repertoire, pronunciation, style, and interpretation to support their performance preparation.
Opera Scenes and Ensemble Rehearsals:
Accompany opera scenes and selected ensemble work, maintaining high musical standards.
Additional Duties:
Support various tasks as assigned by the music and production departments, contributing to a seamless rehearsal and performance process.
Strong Piano
Skills:
Proven experience as a rehearsal pianist and ability to perform challenging operatic repertoire.
Opera Accompanying
Experience:
Background accompanying opera productions or similar performance experience.
Language
Skills:
Proficiency in multiple languages relevant to opera (Italian, German, French, etc.) is highly desirable.
Collaborative Team Player:
Ability to work closely with production staff, artists, and conductors in a professional and supportive manner.
