Moov is revolutionizing the way businesses integrate and use financial services. Our platform empowers developers to build, scale, and innovate faster with seamless payments and banking solutions. We believe in simplifying financial technology so businesses can focus on what matters most—growing their companies.

The Moov FRAML (Fraud and Anti-Money Laundering) Investigator is a critical member of the compliance team, responsible for safeguarding the integrity of the Moov payment network. This role encompasses end-to-end investigation and action on suspicious fraud activity and potential AML violations, while managing the daily operational queues that support Moov’s merchant onboarding lifecycle.

The investigator plays a key role in ensuring that all merchants enrolling on the Moov payment processing platform meet regulatory and business standards. This includes conducting thorough additional due diligence across KYC and KYB onboarding queues, coordinating closely with Moov Support to validate new partners, and confirming that merchants operate within their approved business models and in full compliance with Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) regulations.

Beyond day-to-day investigations, this individual will assist leadership with the development and ongoing refinement of internal processes and procedures, author investigative reports on suspicious activity, and expand cases as appropriate.

You will:
  • Investigate and take action on suspicious fraud and potential AML activity across the entire Moov payment network.
  • Monitor transaction activity and alert queues for indicators of fraudulent behavior or money laundering.
  • Author detailed investigative reports on suspicious activity and evidence cases to management or regulatory bodies as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate case records and documentation throughout the investigation lifecycle.
  • Manage daily KYC (Know Your Customer) and KYB (Know Your Business) onboarding activity queues.
  • Perform enhanced due diligence on merchants enrolling to use the Moov payment processing platform, including:
  • Secretary of State validation
  • Lexis Nexis business credit report analysis
  • Conduct in-depth onboarding investigations specific to Card and Banking payment platforms, including:
  • Assessing merchant risk profiles for card-present and card-not-present (CNP) environments
  • Reviewing chargeback history, processing volume patterns, and card network compliance indicators
  • Evaluating ACH, RTP, and banking product suitability against merchant business type and risk tier
  • Identifying red flags associated with high-risk MCC codes, prohibited business categories, and card brand rules
  • Verifying banking relationships and account ownership to prevent account takeover and synthetic identity fraud at onboarding
  • Ensure all onboarding activity aligns with BSA regulations, card network rules (Visa, Mastercard), and Moov’s internal compliance standards.
Underwriting Evaluations
  • Perform merchant underwriting evaluations as part of the onboarding and ongoing review process, assessing overall risk acceptability for card and banking payment products.
  • Analyze and interpret key underwriting inputs including:
  • Business financial statements and processing volume history
  • Personal and business credit reports (e.g., Lexis Nexis, Experian, Equifax)
  • Chargeback ratios and dispute history relative to card network thresholds
  • Industry and MCC risk classification
  • Length of time in business, ownership structure, and beneficial ownership verification
  • Assign appropriate risk tiers and recommend approval, conditional approval, or declination based on underwriting findings.
  • Document underwriting decisions with clear rationale and maintain audit-ready records in accordance with internal policy and regulatory expectations.
  • Partner with compliance and risk leadership to refine underwriting criteria and adapt to evolving fraud patterns and regulatory guidance.
  • Work closely with Moov Support to validate new partners joining the Moov network.
  • Confirm that partner merchants adhere to their respective approved business models and BSA obligations.
  • Identify and elevate anomalies in merchant behavior or profile information.
