The financial secretary is responsible for maintaining the church financial records and preparing financial reports. Maintains adequate records of all church funds received and disbursed, reconciles bank statements, and audits ledgers. Verifies compliance with the Book of Discipline of the United Methodist Church and GFUMC Financial Policies and Procedures.
Responsibilities- Posts receipts and disbursements of all accounts according to the financial protocols in place.
- Posts weekly offerings to individual accounts.
- Reconciles the bank statements monthly.
- Prepares monthly and annual financial reports for the finance committee and other church meetings.
- Prepares quarterly and annual government reports.
- Executes bi-weekly payroll and submits all required payroll tax payments to the IRS.
- Prepares W2s, 1099s, and other required forms as part of annual end of year processes.
- Checks and totals all invoices when approved and informs the responsible persons of their budget expenditure.
- Responds to questions about financial matters.
- Maintains a file of invoices, correspondence, and reports.
- Prepares and issues checks to staff members, designations, and organizations in accordance with approved church policy.
- Ensures that funds and gifts are used according to instruction from the congregation or as directed by the contributor.
- Supervises or assists in the supervision of an accounting system that provides adequate internal controls to protect all funds and workers.
- Updates and maintains guidelines approved by the Internal Revenue Service for the provision of tax credits which involve non-cash gifts.
- Adheres to all Safe Sanctuary policies and procedures.
- Assists in planning and promoting the annual stewardship campaign.
- Performs other duties as requested.
- Accounting and office management job experience or equivalent specialized training.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Strong communication, mathematical, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated Christian faith and desire to help others.

Part-time, hourly
