ABOUT

THE ROLE

The VP, Transactions Tax will provide thoughtful leadership on tax planning, lead technical tax research, own the development of scalable processes, and oversee the modeling and review of transaction tax implications across the portfolio. This role will also deepen relationships with external advisors, guide policy development, and enhance the systems and workflows that support the company’s transaction pipeline.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight of the Transaction Tax function, ensuring accurate and timely tax analysis, investment structuring, and joint venture reporting.
  • Advise on tax implications and structuring alternatives for complex real estate transactions, joint ventures, and capital deployment strategies.
  • Lead cross-functional coordination of closing and financial information between Treasury, Capital Markets, Tax, Accounting, FP&A, Legal, and Portfolio Management to support seamless transaction execution.
  • Develop and implement scalable policies, controls, and best practices to drive efficiency, consistency, and accuracy across the transaction tax lifecycle.
  • Oversee and review sophisticated financial models, including waterfalls, income allocations, and tax forecasting models to support investment decision-making.
  • Manage relationships and direction of third-party advisors, including law firms, accounting firms, and other specialists.
  • Oversee analysis of ERP business unit builds to ensure proper tax method application and alignment with reporting requirements.
  • Lead review of tax consolidation methods and monthly legal entity structure changes, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Provide technical tax expertise, including research and preparation of documentation supporting audit positions, tax filings, and internal decision-making.
  • Develop, coach, and mentor team members, cultivating a culture of high performance, accountability, and continuous improvement.

COMPENSATION

Salaries may vary by location. The range for this role in New York City is $195,000 - $285,000 plus bonus. Final compensation determinations are made based on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual experience, education, and skill level; business strategic priorities; primary office location; scope and anticipated strategic impact of the role.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
  • CPA certification required.
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of relevant experience.
  • Prior experience in public accounting, project management, and team leadership.
