As a Senior Fraud Analyst
, you will help shape Mudflap’s fraud strategy as we scale our payments platform and expand into new products and payment rails. You’ll combine deep analytics, strong fraud intuition, and cross-functional leadership to identify emerging threats, design effective controls, and balance loss prevention with customer experience and growth.
This is a highly visible role for someone who wants to move beyond investigating individual cases and build the systems, strategies, and analytical frameworks that determine how a growing fintech manages fraud at scale.
Work Location: This role is based in the Bay Area and involves a hybrid work approach, balancing in-office collaboration with the ability to work remotely.

Expectations (In this role, you will):
- Own and evolve fraud strategies across Mudflap’s payments products, including fleet card and legacy payment products
- Identify emerging fraud patterns and translate insights into scalable rules, controls, and policies
- Partner with Data Science to develop, evaluate, and improve fraud detection models
- Use SQL, Python, and advanced analytics to uncover fraud trends, vulnerabilities, and opportunities
- Define fraud KPIs, loss thresholds, and monitoring frameworks tied to risk appetite and unit economics
- Build dashboards and reporting that surface emerging risks and measure strategy effectiveness
- Partner with Product and Engineering to embed fraud controls into new products and customer experiences
- Evaluate and implement third-party fraud tools, data sources, and detection capabilitiesl
- Develop fraud strategies that enable safe expansion into new payment rails, including ACH
- Balance fraud prevention, customer friction, growth, and profitability as Mudflap scales
Experience (What we look for):
- 5+ years of experience in fraud strategy, risk, or payments, ideally within fintech or a high-volume payments business
- Hands-on experience developing and optimizing fraud strategies, including rules, controls, monitoring, and loss management
- Strong analytical skills with advanced SQL; proficiency with Python and spreadsheets preferred
- Experience analyzing transaction data to identify fraud patterns, vulnerabilities, and root causes
- Strong judgment balancing fraud loss, customer friction, growth, and profitability
- Experience partnering with Data Science, Product, Engineering, and Operations to implement fraud solutions
- Familiarity with card payments, ACH, digital payments, or other complex payment ecosystems
- Ability to turn ambiguous data into clear recommendations and action
- High ownership, curiosity, and comfort operating in a fast-changing environment
